In this episode, Games athletes Margaux Alvarez and Adrian Conway join host Chase Ingraham to preview the competition that is set to take place Thursday, Jan. 13, to Sunday, Jan. 16.

"This field is absolutely stacked. I have never had a harder time picking a top three — for both the men and women — than I have now, because this is just riddled with multiple-year Games athletes, elite individuals from top to bottom.” —Chase Ingraham

Things are heating up in Miami, Florida, as a stacked field of athletes gets fired up to compete at Wodapalooza (WZA), an offseason, CrossFit-licensed event. This year marks the competition’s 10th anniversary.

What began as a one-day event has grown into a four-day “Functional Fitness Festival,” with over 2,300 athletes competing across 20+ different divisions, including teen, masters, and adaptive divisions.

After reminiscing about their own experiences competing, spectating, and soaking up the ambiance at WZA, Alvarez, Conway, and Ingraham discuss their podium picks for the men’s and women’s divisions as well as the three-person elite team divisions.

The trio unanimously predicts second-fittest man on Earth Pat Vellner and West Coast Classic winner Bethany Shadburne will rise to the top of the leaderboard.

On the team side, Mayfem — with teammates Andrea Nisler, Taylor Williamson, and Haley Adams — is the front runner for the women, while The Boys — Noah Ohlsen, Chandler Smith, and Travis Mayer — and Mayhem In Paradise — Rich Froning, Angelo Diciccio, and Luke Parker — are heavy favorites to win for the men.

Ingraham also reveals that Scott Panchik, who announced his retirement days before the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games, has accepted an invitation to compete at the event.

In this episode of the CrossFit podcast, four-time Games athlete Adrian Conway and host Chase Ingraham preview the event, revealing what they’re most excited to see, which athletes to watch, and their top picks to win it all.

“Dubai is a ‘pull all the stops, put on the show, and put the athletes through one of the most pure tests’ (competition) I think we get to see throughout a calendar year of the CrossFit season. I couldn’t be more excited … because when I look back on the history of it, some of the events, and the ways that they test the athletes, I think are extremely unique and really gives us a very unique look at what athletes are capable of and what we can expect even for the season to come.” —Adrian Conway

  • Ep. 017: Inside the Legends Championship—A Masters Only Competition
“That’s our biggest thing is athlete experience. Making sure that when they come to Legends Championship, they’re going to remember it for a long time; they’re going to remember it for years … and it’s going to be an experience that they can look back upon and smile.” —Joe Linton

For years, the CrossFit masters divisions have shown the masses what fitness can look like at any age. As a result, more opportunities — like masters-specific competitions — have been created to shine a bright light on these talented and inspiring athletes.

In this episode, Bob Jennings and Joe Linton, co-founders of The Legends Championship, join host Chase Ingraham to talk about the evolution of this annual masters-only competition, and what athletes and spectators can expect at this year’s event.

The Legends Championship began in 2017 as a one-day competition with 36 participants. Today, masters athletes from all over the world participate in multiple stages in the hopes of being one of hundreds to compete at the four-day final in San Diego, California.

The competition begins Thursday, Dec. 9 and runs through Sunday, Dec. 12.

Jennings and Linton have kept workout details close to the vest, planning to reveal more information hours before the events, and are excited to watch the masters in action.

“With only releasing the workouts maybe 18 hours in advance,” Jennings says, “... all (the athletes) can do is game plan for them. … It’s going to be really fun to watch those plans unravel and then see the athletes that can overcome that challenge mid-workout.”

Athletes can also expect “to touch some (equipment) that (they) probably don’t have at (their) gym,” Linton says.

For fans unable to attend the competition in person, eight of the nine events will be streamed live on the Legends Masters Comp YouTube channel with CrossFit Games broadcasters Sean Woodland, Bill Grundler, and Annie Sakamoto commentating the event.

  • Ep. 016: Inside “2018: The Ultimate Test” with Director Mariah Moore
“It’s a very personal film for me ... because I know all of the people that worked very hard behind the scenes. … So finally being able to bring their hard work back to life and get to share (it) with the world — I’m very proud that I’ve gotten the opportunity to do that.”

After rumors began to circulate around the CrossFit Home Office of possible changes that would affect the future of the CrossFit Games and the media team, CrossFit staff decided to remain resilient in the face of uncertainty and turn the 2018 Games into an event to remember.

Director of “2018: The Ultimate Test” Mariah Moore joins host Chase Ingraham to discuss her experience on CrossFit’s media team and talk about creating the 2018 Games documentary.

Moore opens up about the events of the 2018 Games season and describes her personal connection to making the documentary, including her desire to showcase the media team’s hard work behind the scenes that year.

From capturing and digesting footage to interviewing staff and athletes more than three years later, Moore details the creative process of bringing the film to life, condensing the most memorable and exciting moments from the Games into a documentary less than two hours long.

Although the film has not yet been released, Moore is already in production for the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games documentary.

“I think 2021 has the makings to be the best film that CrossFit will have ever put out,” Moore says about the unprecedented year.

“We were all just so happy to be back,” Moore continues. “We all were just so grateful to be back in Madison, to be doing the Games, and I think the athletes felt that, too. It was a very emotional year.”

The highly anticipated 2018 Games documentary will be released Tuesday, Dec. 7, and is available for pre-order now on iTunes (in over 65+ countries) and on Amazon (U.S. only).
