There’s more head-scratching news out of California as the San Francisco 49ers have agreed on a new contract with Jimmy Garoppolo to keep him in the Bay Area for this season. Why?

Tom Brady made his preseason debut this weekend, but the major takeaways from TB12 come from off the field rather than on it. Looking extremely thin in the face, the passion that was once in the voice of the game’s greatest seems gone. College football season is here, and Week 0 is in the books. Head coach Scott Frost at Nebraska did nothing to cool down his hot seat with the Cornhuskers as his alma mater fell to Northwestern in the featured matchup on Saturday. From our own backyard, there’s a sense that there isn’t enough noise around the UTSA Roadrunners just one week away from their home opener against Houston. There are some technical difficulties with the phones as the guys take a call, but the question still remains on whether the university is doing enough.

Hour 2 is all football, starting with the preseason action last night. Trey Lance didn’t look great, and the San Francisco 49ers may be thinking they moved on from Jimmy Garoppolo too soon. The guys are nearly done with their over/under predictions, making picks today for the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, New England Patriots, and New Orleans Saints.

Foreman has been formally accused of grooming and raping two women in the 1970s when they were underage. With much more sure to develop with this story as time goes on, the headline isn’t good.

It has surely been an emotional week for the family of the late Kobe Bryant who would’ve turned 44 years old this week. Yesterday was “Kobe Bryant Day” across the NBA as the league once again recognized the superstar on 8/24. Now, Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow, has won her lawsuit against Los Angeles County for the distress caused by emergency personnel having shared distressing images at the time of the accident. The show closes with three more over/under predictions as the guys make their picks for the Los Angeles Chargers, the Los Angeles Rams, and the Miami Dolphins.

The world seems largely past the COVID-19 pandemic, but there are still parts of society impacted by it, especially when it comes to international travel. Novak Djokovic has been open about his non-vaccinated status, and this week it is costing him another shot at a major title at the US Open. Speaking of missing opportunities, the Dallas Cowboys’ Tyron Smith and Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren both suffered serious injuries this week that could see their seasons over before they start. In the case of Holmgren, he’s already done.

The NFL lost a legend today with the passing of Len Dawson. As great as a quarterback as he was with the Kansas City Chiefs, Calvin remembers Dawson as the voice of the NFL on HBO’s Inside the NFL. Speaking of the Chiefs, former wide receiver Sammy Watkins felt the need to compare Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers recently, and Calvin has an issue with it. The PGA is making noise this week with the announcement that Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are constructing events together. Beyond the headline, is the tour anointing McIlroy as the face of the organization for this generation?

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs had a spectacular season last year, intercepting 11 passes and making the Pro Bowl. It was a great showing, but good enough to land him at #23 on the NFL’s Top 100 list? Calvin doesn’t think so, and it is putting the credibility of the list even more in question. The guys continue their preseason over/under predictions today with the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, and Indianapolis Colts. Before the show wraps, there are reports that Dennis Rodman is getting engaged with Russia to press for the release of Brittney Griner, which surely raises some eyebrows.
