Words have extreme power, and both Pete Rose and Oklahoma Sooners' assistant coach Cale Gundy are paying the price for theirs. Along with his actions from the past, Rose put his foot in his mouth over the weekend in Philadelphia while the Phillies were celebrating the 1980 World Championship when asked about an affair he had with a young woman 50 years ago. Gundy's incident was arguably less intentional, though egregious nonetheless. Feeling his own shame, he subsequently resigned his position with the team. In the NBA, Dejounte Murray is acting out and "letting his hair down" since being traded by the San Antonio Spurs. Now the point guard is in the middle of an Instagram beef with rookie Paolo Banchero stemming from a three-on-three tournament.

The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Las Vegas Raiders kicked off the NFL Preseason last night in the Hall of Fame game, but both sides sat anyone worth watching. At least football is back though. In the NBA, LeBron James had a meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers’ front office, raising eyebrows on why there needed to be a meeting in the first place. This weekend was supposed to be Jake Paul’s first “real” boxing opponent, but the event has been scrapped, and it wasn’t because it didn’t sell.

With the return of the NFL tonight and the Deshaun Watson news, football dominates the second hour. In the Pro Football Hall of Fame game tonight the Las Vegas Raiders and the Jacksonville Jaguars will take the field, though Jacksonville will be missing some key players. After having a day for the world to break down the NFL’s appeal of the Watson suspension, Calvin has some questions still, and reports are now coming out of the possibility of the quarterback playing Week 1.

On The Docket today, there’s a lot of big news to get to with the headlines that have been dropping the last couple of days. First, however, in some smaller stories, former NBA champion Iman Shumpert was arrested at the airport in Dallas, Texas with marijuana and some gun magazines, and MLB is set to hit the road too, heading to London for a series next summer. In the major story of the day, Brittney Griner was found guilty in Russia today and sentenced to nine years for possessing hashish oil in February while flying in the eastern nation. Another sports legend was lost this week with the news last night of the passing of legendary Dodger announcer Vin Scully. Debatably the GOAT of radio play-by-play announcers, Scully really created the mold for the profession. What isn’t being talked about, however, is Tom Brady’s role for his part in the matter. The PGA is back in the headlines again for its scuffle with the LIV Tour Players, and now a selection of notable LIV players are suing the PGA. In the NBA, Kevin Durant is meeting with the Brooklyn Nets as the team has been unable to move the star. What could they be discussing?
