Story 1. Fake id
Gwinnett County police are searching for a woman who allegedly used a fake identity to rent a hotel room in Duluth. The incident occurred earlier this month at Studio 6 when the woman presented a fake ID at the check-in counter. A day later, a man staying at the hotel called 911 and informed the police that he was traveling with a man and the woman, who were involved in bank frauds along the eastern seaboard.
The man who called 911 claimed that he did not participate in the fraud but was merely driving the individuals around and receiving payment in methamphetamine. He also informed the police that the man and the woman were homeless.
The fake ID used by the woman belonged to a Colorado man who expressed his desire to prosecute her for identity fraud. The Colorado man was advised by the police to check his bank accounts for any unauthorized access. For more on this story, visit www.gwinnettdailypost.com
STORY 2: 3 teens
Three teenagers were injured in a shooting near a house party in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The incident occurred as the teens were on their way to the party, and they were shot by an unknown individual. The injuries sustained by the two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old were reported as non-life threatening. The police are investigating the incident and have described the shooter as a tall Black male, weighing around 200 pounds, with dreadlocks, and wearing a red hoodie and white T-shirt. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
Story 3: historian
Ruth Abram, a historian hired by Gwinnett County to compile the history of The Promised Land, has accused Gwinnett County Community Services Director Tina Fleming of downplaying the history of slavery and interfering with her research. Fleming allegedly requested that the term "plantation" be replaced with "farm" when discussing the property's pre-Civil War history, in an attempt to downplay the reality of slavery. Abram criticized Fleming's approach, stating that it would replace terms like "slave" with "servant." Abram also claimed that Fleming prohibited her from involving African-American organizations, community leaders, educators, or politicians in her research. The criticism comes in the wake of the county's abandoned eminent domain effort against the Livsey family, who have owned part of The Promised Land for over a century. Fleming has not responded to the accusations…..we’re back in just a moment

Margaritaville at Lanier Islands recently caused a stir by announcing a ban on swimming in Lake Lanier, but the Army Corps of Engineers stated that they are unable to intervene in the matter.
Due to safety concerns, Margaritaville erected a fence along the waterline, preventing visitors from swimming in the lake. While beach access remains available, swimming in the lake is now prohibited. This decision received backlash and mockery on social media. However, the Corps of Engineers clarified that Margaritaville had not violated any regulations.
In the meantime, the Corps of Engineers encouraged those wishing to swim in the lake to visit their parks situated around Lake Lanier. These parks, managed by the Corps, feature public beaches where swimming is allowed.
The Corps emphasized the importance of recreational activities at Lake Lanier, expressing their commitment to providing day-use parks that offer boating and swimming opportunities.

Story 1. sheriff
Curtis Clemons, who previously lost to Gwinnett County Sheriff Keybo Taylor in the Democratic Party runoff for the seat in 2020, has officially announced his candidacy for the 2024 election. Clemons filed paperwork in February to begin raising campaign funds and expressed his commitment to answering the call for better leadership in Gwinnett County. He will launch his campaign during a fundraising event at LeGomier Restaurant and Event Hall on Wednesday. Clemons is one of two Democrats challenging Sheriff Taylor, while Republican Baron Reinhold has also announced his candidacy. In his announcement, Clemons raised concerns about staffing levels, turnover rates, and budget increases within the Sheriff's Office. He emphasized the need for fiscal responsibility, recruitment and retention campaigns, and diverse representation in leadership. Clemons, a Marine Corps veteran with extensive law enforcement experience, retired as an assistant chief from the Gwinnett County police department in 2019 and served as the top investigator in the District Attorney's office after the 2020 elections. Clemons is the 2nd candidate to announce in as many days. Stay updated at gwinnettdailypost.com
