The Square Mile of Murders: Twisted Tuesdays
In the annals of Scotland’s history, certain chapters are shrouded in darkness, but none as infamous as the "Square Mile of Murder" that took place between 1857 and 1908.
Within this relatively compact region, a series of four of Scotland's most celebrated murders unfolded over a mere 51-year span. All of the murders were murky, with each murder case having aspects that remain mysterious to this day.
Did Madeleine Smith kill her potentially blackmailing lover?
Did Jessie McLachlan indeed slaughter her best friend or was it the patriarch father of the family?
Was the maid and possible lover of Dr Pritchard poisoned by him with the crime being covered up by a fire?
And what of the brutal slaying of Marion Gilchrist?  Was a travesty of justice committed with the condemnation of Oscar Slater?
We delve into each of the cases and explore the similarities, if any, of the crimes in the Murderous Square Mile version of the Bermuda Triangle.
