Timestamp: (37:49). Let me end by sharing some spiritual encouragement.

Hi everyone! Thank you for being here.

If you’re new to the show, let me say this. Each week, I cover hot spots and critical threats that might affect our country, as well as keep you informed about our military. I end each show by sharing some verses from the Bible (without being too pushy).

My hope is you end each show better informed, less worried, and more optimistic (about both our country and your life).

Also, huge shout out to those of you whose paid subscriptions make it possible for me to devote time and resources to researching and compiling the news each week.

As a reminder, monthly paid subscribers through Substack also get access to bonus audio summaries and special “Insider Brief” newsletters. These typically drop once a week.

If you’d like to support the show, there are several ways you can do so.

You can subscribe with Substack: https://stanrmitchell.substack.com/subscribe

Let me end by sharing some spiritual encouragement for you all out there.

As you know, if you want true peace, I believe you should look to God and the Bible for that — not a country, not a party, and certainly not a person. I believe that not only can God give you ever-lasting life, but that He can also give you peace in this life. God is like a good shepherd. He leads you by the still waters. He restores your soul. He guides you out of the death and destruction of sin. If you know nothing about the Bible, but want to test the waters and maybe try it out, check out my resource page here.

By the way, if you’re dealing with depression, PTSD, or thoughts of suicide, I have a link I’d like you to check out. In fact, it’s an entire page long. A pep talk, if you will, that I believe will help. I also have listed a hotline that you can call, whether you’re a service member or just a civilian. Here’s the page: PTSD.

    Timestamps:

Timestamp: (2:24). Is the American Age over? And has the United States commited imperial suicide? Let’s talk about it.

  • All of us need to examine our souls... What are we doing?

    Timestamps:

Timestamp: (1:07). A recap of the past week's political news, from election results to tariffs, and what that means for the country. I also make a bold prediction about Trump being at the apex of his power. Do you agree or disagree with the argument I’ve laid out?

Timestamp: (23:31). Why is such a large build up of U.S. military forces happening in the Middle East? I lay out three possible theories/opponents.

Timestamp: (31:15). The latest on the negotiations with Russia over the war in Ukraine.

Timestamp: (35:06). What is Pete Hegseth doing?!

Timestamp: (43:18). Greenland and Canada… Both are still on the acquisition list of Trump. And as Americans, we need to examine our souls… I’m not even kidding. This stuff is getting out of control.

In other big news, Senator Cory Booker made history with the longest Senate floor speech in protest of Trump agenda. It lasted more than 25 hours.

I listened to several parts of it, and it was actually quite good. Here’s a few examples:

Moving along, I mentioned last week that some on the Right aren’t happy with the attacks on due process.

Those folks are increasingly speaking out.

Timestamp: (0:36). President Trump has his big call with Vladimir Putin.

Yesterday, I wasted too much time on TikTok, Netflix, and other silly things. And instead of feeling bliss and happiness at the end of it all, I felt like it was a total waste. In was reminded in my devotional that we are designed to spend time with God, serving His purpose. Don’t waste your time.

    Ukraine news:

Rick Wilson: Save Ukraine, Save The World.

WSJ editorial: Toward the end of his on-camera, Oval Office brawl with Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday, President Trump quipped that it was “great television.” He’s right about that. But the point of the meeting was supposed to be progress toward an honorable peace for Ukraine, and in the event the winner was Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

After the meeting, The Economist recapped what followed in the deluge of worldwide support for Ukraine:

Sir Keir Starmer, Britain’s prime minister, told Volodymyr Zelensky that the country would support Ukraine “for as long as it may take”. The Ukrainian president is in London for an impromptu European defence summit on Sunday. On Friday, at an acrimonious meeting at the White House, President Donald Trump and Mr Zelensky clashed over a possible peace deal with Russia, and abandoned the signing of a deal giving America access to Ukraine’s rare minerals.

European leaders rallied behind the Ukrainian president. Olaf Scholz, Germany’s chancellor, said that “Ukraine can rely on Germany—and on Europe”. Kaja Kallas, Europe’s foreign-policy chief, said “the free world needs a new leader”. Mark Rutte, the secretary-general of NATO, told the BBC, however, that Mr Zelensky should “restore his relationship” with Mr Trump.

    U.S. news:

Trump administration orders Pentagon to plan for sweeping budget cuts

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered senior leaders at the Pentagon and throughout the U.S. military to develop plans for cutting 8 percent from the defense budget in each of the next five years, according to a memo obtained by The Washington Post and officials familiar with the matter — a striking proposal certain to face internal resistance and strident bipartisan opposition in Congress.

Hegseth ordered the proposed cuts to be drawn up by Monday, according to the memo, which is dated Tuesday and includes a list of 17 categories that the Trump administration wants exempted. Among them: operations at the southern U.S. border, modernization of nuclear weapons and missile defense, and acquisition of submarines, one-way attack drones and other munitions.

Robert G. Salesses, a senior Pentagon official, said in a statement that the money saved could be “realigned” to pay for new priorities in the Trump administration, including the “Iron Dome for America,” President Donald Trump’s catchphrase for an expansive missile defense system. That sum could amount to $50 billion in next year’s budget, he said.

The Pentagon budget for 2025 is about $850 billion, with broad consensus on Capitol Hill that extensive spending is necessary to deter threats posed by China and Russia, in particular. If adopted in full, the cuts would include tens of billions of dollars in each of the next five years.

This morning’s “peace” talks between the Trump team and Russia are going as described below, according to Fox News’s Jacqui Heinrich reports:

The US and Russia are proposing a three-stage peace plan, according to multiple foreign diplomatic sources close to the talks in Saudi Arabia. The plan includes a ceasefire, elections in Ukraine, then signing of a final agreement.

Multiple foreign diplomatic sources tell FOX the US and Russia consider holding new elections in Ukraine to be a key condition for the success of the settlement process. This piece is certain to stir controversy, as Russia does not hold true elections and the Ukrainians balk at the prospect of installing a pro-Russia puppet president.

Trump and his aides believe that the price of defending Europe is too high — New York Times

In addition, Trump and his advisers believe that a settlement with Moscow will allow the U.S. to redirect security resources towards China, which they consider a greater threat.

Pre-summit meeting coverage that I quote from:

As U.S. and Putin negotiate, intel shows he's not interested 'in a real peace deal,' sources say

Kremlin Message to Trump: There’s Money to Be Made in Russia

“Donald trump is reflexively a contrarian.” — “General HR. McMaster, who was National Security Advisor from 2017 to 2018.”

    Trump learns conversationally.

What’s in it for us? Why do we care? How much does it cost? How can we get people to pay more?

Trump is transactional. What’s in it for us.

What is Zelensky's actual approval rating in Ukraine? About 57 percent.

Let me end by sharing some spiritual encouragement for you all out there.

As you know, if you want true peace, I believe you should look to God and the Bible for that — not a country, not a party, and certainly not a person. I believe that not only can God give you ever-lasting life, but that he can also give you peace in this life. God is like a good shephard. He leads you by the still waters. He restores your soul. He guides you out of the death and destruction of sin. If you know nothing about the Bible, but want to test the waters and maybe try it out, check out my resource page here.

I also have a podcast that focuses solely on faith called The Search for God. You can find it below.
