Sports editor Shaun Holkko catches up with recent Sac State graduates and former football players Andre Lindsey and Dre Terrell to hear their reactions to the Sac State football team’s rise in the Big Sky this season. Last season, the Sac State football team placed last in the league and replaced their head coach after the season’s end. Things are looking brighter this season and we wanted to get their responses to the new coach and their perspective on how their old friends have grown as a team since they left.

Listen as Air Force veteran John Rayome, a Sac State communication studies major, chronicles his experiences returning to school after his service.

Rayome talked with The State Hornet reporter and fellow Air Force veteran Ashton Byers about his deployments, struggles he faced with drugs and alcohol after he left the Air Force and his transition from active duty to civilian life as a student.  Rayome also gives his advice for other veterans who are r currently transitioning back into civilian life.

Opinion editor and podcast host Shiavon Chatman sat down with Maya Coleman, Sacramento State student and official off-campus activist of the university’s Black Student Union. The two discussed Coleman’s extensive work of uniting students and the community of Sacramento and educating those students on resources available to them in their own backyard. Chatman and Coleman then explored the idea of establishing boundaries in friendships and romantic relationships. They tossed around the idea of whether interpersonal relationships can be emotional labor or if being a friend is also like being an on-call therapist.

State Hornet men’s basketball reporter Michael Wiggins interviews head coach Brian Katz and seniors Izayah Mauriohooho-Le'afa and Joshua Patton about the upcoming season.

Last season, men’s basketball got eighth place out of 11 teams in the Big Sky Conference. On this episode, Katz, Mauriohooho-Le’afa and Patton share their strategies and goals for improving their standings this year. Mauriohooho-Le'afa and Patton also talk about their personal goals for their final season.

Shiavon sits down with opinion writer Magaly Munoz to talk about the backlash regarding rapper  T.I.’s policing of his daughter’s body. T.I. was featured on the podcast “Ladies Like Us” where he talked about his controversial parenting style. He said he attends his daughter’s yearly checkup with her gynecologist and demands proof that she is not having sex by asking if her hymen is intact. Shiavon and Magaly also talk sex positivity, the “sex talk” in Black and Brown communities and the policing of women’s bodies.

Managing editor Cory Jaynes sits down with former ASI President Noel Mora to talk about Mora’s support of AB 59, a bill recently signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom that prioritizes the placement of vote centers on California college campuses.

Mora testified twice in favor of AB59, which used Sacramento State’s 2018 vote center as a real-world example to help expand voter centers to other campuses. Mora also discussed his views on civic engagement after the New York Times reported on attempts to suppress college votes nationwide and his opposition to the California State University’s proposal to add a quantitative reasoning course requirement for entry to the CSU.

Listen to Hornet volleyball team setter Ashtin Olin explain her role on the team, her adventures traveling and how Motley Crue amps her up before games.

Olin said she wasn’t excited the first time she was assigned the role of the setter.

“I hated it for the first couple of games because I didn’t feel like I’d get that same rush when you get a really good kill,” Olin said. “Then I remember setting the ball for one of the hitters and she got a really good kill off of it and I had that same feel that I got when I got a kill. That moment was when I fell in love with setting.”
