Some projects are receiving big dollars, while other are being shut out. One of the agencies receiving a funding boost in the beleaguered EDD. Sacramento lawmakers continue to debate Governor Newsom’s budget. Many areas have benefited from a record surplus, but not everything is getting a boost in funding. Democratic lawmakers this week pushed back on a $200 million funding request for public health being left out of the budget.

As the temperatures begin to rise for what’s sure to be another hot summer, the drought and wildfires aren’t the only issues on the mind of state leaders. Governor Gavin Newsom tapped into a record surplus for his recent budget proposal. The influx of cash not only affords the Governor flexibility in funding a wide variety of project, but also allows him the ability to experiment on pilot programs including a state-funded Universal Basic Income.

As we’ve been reporting on KCBS, Governor Gavin Newsom wrapped up a week’s worth of policy rollout events to unveil his complete May Revise budget. The massive 267 billion dollar spending plan includes a sweeping recovery package aimed at jumpstarting the California economy.
