The Stoned Ape Podcast with Wes Ranson

Today we have a request for The Flat Earth Theory. I would consider myself someone that is into conspiracies and this was a subject I was interested in. At least finding out where it rooted from and much about this one surprised me. Not trying to give anything away in the description, I did think this was an interesting topic and I appreciate the request.  Though this may not have turned out the way initially planned, I had fun with this one and I hope you will too. Let's go to the ice wall and see what's over the edge.

Tonight we travel through the nine levels of Hell with our exploration into Dante's Inferno. I've wanted to read this for a while and really see what all the fuss was about...I really just wanted to get into the imagery of Dante's Hell, and what I found was this is what most people's "Hell" looks like. That's interesting to me. I'm glad I've read it, I'm ready to talk about it and just chill. Let's get into this epic.

Tonight we talk about Hannibal Barca. He was a horrible pain in Rome's side for a long time. The majority of damage was done early in his campaign but after that he spent 14 freakin' years just roaming around Rome and messing things up here and there. Hannibal never really lost a battle. Rome even at their height was unable to kill him and some Roman leaders even respected him. Hannibal was so effective in military tactics we still study his techniques today in military academies across the globe and almost nothing from his place of birth has existed for over 2200 years except tiny fragments...but people wrote about Hannibal. Tonight we'll talk about that...right after we get right.

Today we talk about the Gregorian Calendar. I did want to do an episode on all calendars but that would take multiple episodes...I decided against that. I narrowed it down to our current calendar (in the States and the calendar most countries use for at least business needs). Still snuck a little early time evolution in here but for the most part we're getting to our calendar and that is the Gregorian Calendar. So let's burn one and chat about why we call this time what it is today, and what wild rascals decided it needed to be fixed in the first place.

Today we talk about the shit show that was, The Island of Dr. Moreau. I was 10 when this movie came to theaters and I remember seeing it. I don't remember how it was completely obvious that no one on screen seemed like they even wanted to be there...I noticed this later in life, but I heard of this production and I felt that it is absolutely wild enough to be talked about on the show. I have a special spot for filmmakers anyway. So sit back, let's spark one up, and chat about the good, bad, and weird times everyone had while shooting The Island of Dr. Moreau.

Tonight we talk about Marilyn Monroe. One of the most, if not THE most, famous actresses of all time. Growing up a lot of my friends were into Marilyn but honestly other than liking some photos and watching a few movies, I really didn't know too much about her. I'm glad I know more about this. Marilyn was very interesting and inspiring to anyone trying to change their life from what seems to be destined for them. If you have time to chill then it's time to hang out and talk about this glamorous gal.

This week we're finishing up Homer's epic The Odyssey . Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey came to theater's a few weeks ago and we felt this was a good time to go over Odysseus' journey. We do eventually plan on doing all the remaining epics connected to Troy (the ones we still have anyway The Iliad and The Aeneid) but with this being more relevant right now we decided why not. Let's chill and talk about our hero's journey home and how he takes care of the sinful suitors.

Today on the Stoned Ape Podcast we'll be talking about the Ptolemaic Dynasty. The last and longest Egyptian dynasty spawned from the result of conquests of Alexander the Great...but how they held on to this dynasty was a little...incesty. After the death of Alexander and going to Cleopatra VII we'll chat about the 300 year reign of one of the most powerful, strange, and dangerous families from antiquity. After a busy weekend I'm ready to chill with you guys.

Spring of 1803, after the United States acquired the Louisiana Territory, two men set out with a crew of roughly 33 men to see what the country had purchased.  Meriwether Lewis and William Clark would captain a group of hunters, trappers, and would be mountain men on this journey. In the final part of our series on the expedition, the Corps makes it to their destination and we will hear about what became of a few key members of the party as well as the captains. Let's take a puff and finish the story of the Corps of Discovery.
