The question of why bad things happen if God is good isn't primarily intellectual but deeply emotional, arising from real pain. God's goodness doesn't promise a pain-free life but rather His presence in our suffering. Christianity uniquely addresses this through the four-part story of Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration. God created the world good, but evil entered through human choice, not divine creation. Through Jesus, God provides redemption and promises ultimate restoration. Six key principles help us understand suffering: God gave us free will because love requires freedom, He permits but doesn't create suffering, darkness makes light more brilliant, eternal rewards outweigh temporary losses, we live by faith not explanations, and Jesus identified with our suffering by becoming human.
