Episode Summary: On this episode of the Student-Centered World podcast, I wanted to talk about something that we all are obviously required to do in the classroom, which is to differentiate for every student that is in there. We know that all of our students learn just a little bit differently from each other, have different needs, and it's our job to meet all of those needs. Differentiation has a tendency to really overwhelm most teachers, but it doesn't have to depending on how you craft your classroom. That is what I wanted to explain to you today.

Episode Summary: On this episode of the Student-Centered World podcast, you get to listen in on a coaching session that I have with one of our "A Passion for Progress" teacher-students named Rocio Gonzalez. Rocio is a teacher of English as a second language right outside of Mexico City. She went through our course in the summer of 2020. She saw the excitement behind students in their learning and couldn't wait to get her hands on it in her own classroom. But even though she went through the course, she did have some questions that are fairly common to help clarify to make sure this goes as smoothly as possible for her students. Episode Summary: Today's podcast episode is really a student-centered learning success story. We get to chat with Kyra Sandstrom, who is one of our Passion for Progress students and I love how this is all worked out for her. When she took our course ("A Passion for Progress: Becoming a Rockstar Teacher in a Stressed-Out World") in the summer of 2020, she kept coming back to the point that she is teaching third graders and while all student-centered learning sounds great for maybe middle school kids, definitely high school kids, she just didn't understand how it could work for the younger students. I kept telling her just try it, just try it. So, in her first year in teaching third grade, and teaching kids both on Zoom and in the classroom, she implemented what we taught her, and not only is it working amazing, but she's now training other teachers on how to do this method of instruction. Super inspirational. Lots of great ideas.

Now we know that SEL is very much a buzzword and buzz term in education right now, but a lot of people don't really get what it is, and how you're able to implement it in your day to day without it being more work or just something else to do or deviating from your curriculum. She has a lot of really, really great ideas for every grade level to be able to get this done and also explains why it is SO critical to this generation of learners.

Episode Summary: If you've been looking for a way to lower the stress level and increase the productivity and positivity within your school building, that means students, staff, administrators, parents even then this podcast is for you. I had the opportunity to chat with Dr. Kali Arnold and Danielle Brunson who run The Namaste Project. The Namaste Project helps schools hone in on the mindfulness practices that are going to make them succeed. They help anywhere from lowering stress levels and resetting expectations to creating these Zen-like oasis places within the school building where teachers can go to reset to refresh and refocus. They even help some schools eliminate the need for detention or school suspension and help those students who need it most create coping mechanisms and learn ways to reroute their negative behaviors. If this sounds too good to be true, it definitely is not. This episode is going to be something you want to pay attention to.
