The Summer I turned Pretty

Jenny Han, the story unfolds through the eyes of Belly (Isabel) Conklin, a young girl on the cusp of womanhood.

Set amidst the sun-soaked beaches of Cousins Beach, the narrative begins with Belly's annual summer pilgrimage to the beach house owned by her mother's best friend, Susannah, and her sons, Conrad and Jeremiah. Each summer, Belly transforms from a girl into a young woman, her experiences and emotions evolving in sync with the changing tides of the ocean.

The novel delves deep into Belly's relationships with the Fisher boys—Conrad, the brooding and mysterious older brother, and Jeremiah, the charming and carefree younger brother. As Belly navigates her feelings for both brothers, she discovers the complexities of love and friendship, and the inevitable heartaches that come with growing up.

Throughout the story, Jenny Han weaves a nostalgic and heartfelt tale that captures the essence of summer—lazy days spent on the beach, bonfire nights under the stars, and the bittersweet moments that mark the passage of time. It's a story of self-discovery, of finding one's place in the world, and of cherishing the fleeting moments that define a summer—and ultimately, a life.
