  • 16: #16 | The Suss X Echo Chamber Crossover
**The Suss X Echo Chamber Crossover**
No need to wonder about the most ambitious crossover of all time anymore. The Suss' Glenn and Steph are joined in studio this week by Tony Groves (@trickstersworld) and Martin McMahon (@williamhboney1) of the Echo Chamber Podcast which celebrated 6 months of critical perspectives on Irish life and society. We ask the lads how they got to know one another, what drove them to want to start a political podcast and hear about some of their highlights from in excess of 50 episodes.
We work through a number of common gripes that the two podcasts have with traditional, legacy and mainstream media, spanning the tiresome Marian Finucane panels to the carnage in Independent News & Media. We try to get to the crux of why alternative media has never been more important and speculate as to how we can join the dots to create a more plural media landscape.
Strap in for an uncovering and untangling of the golden circle and how our small island nation’s elites seek to preserve their status at our expense.
Closing Track – North/South by Mango X Mathman

  • 15: #15 | Sussin’ The News
Glenn and Steph take a look at this week’s main scandal in Irish public life and society.
What’s all this about posters? We look at the latest in the run up to the referendum on the 8th Amendment. The show is somewhat more optimistic than presumptuous pundits who earlier in the week appeared to speak too soon in relation to how prepared the YES side is. Unregulated spaces both online and offline have us talking too. Both the Transparent Referendum Initiative’s appeal to Facebook and the refusal of the Advertising Standard Authority to act on misleading posters feature as talking points.
We discuss the aftermath of the #April7th march organised by the Housing & Homeless Coalition and ask what’s next, particularly in light of some groups who refused to march due to the involvement of the Labour Party. There’s also an outline of what has been going on at Independent News & Media and what it could potentially mean for an already battered field of news journalism.
We’ve also got the suss on Bertie Ahern’s rehabilitation, talk of him running for President of Ireland and why that’s really not a very good idea!
Closing track – One Rizla by Shame

  • 13: #13 | Your Week In Review
On this weeks stripped back episode of The Suss, Steph and Glenn go solo and deep dive into the weeks biggest stories in Ireland in beyond.
There's plenty of talk surrounding Simon Convey's sudden transition to the Pro-Choice camp that's surprised a lot of people, but what lead him to change his mind and what does this mean for the Government?
Should 16 year old's be able to vote? After a stormy debate in the Seaned last week, prompted by Senator Marie-Louise O'Donnell's remarks that young people should stay away from politics both Glenn and Steph have a go at the out of date Senator.
Ireland's pledge to suspend Russian diplomats in solidarity with the UK is up for debate this week, should we really be rushing into such a rash decision? Plus we look at some discrepancies in diplomatic relations in the past and see what retired broadcaster Vincent Brown has to say
RTE Broadcaster Brendan O'Connor is on the chopping block this week, following hateful comments made about women who should know their place and not get uppity notions about feminism. Brendan is one of the worst offenders in Irish media for his women hating rhetoric and yet the state broadcaster dutifully pays him a cozy wage funded by us.
Canadian academic Jordan Peterson, who rose to prominence for not respecting peoples gender pronouns and generally being an all out wanker falls into the critical clutches of Glenn this week, who tears him a new a**hole before the cultural critic is due to speak at a conference in Ireland this summer.
All this and more on this weeks episode!

  • 12: #12 | From the Gaeltacht to Gaza
Glenn and Steph are back with a cross-cultural extravaganza. On The Suss this week, we hear from Peter Kavanagh (@TheKavOfficial), one of Ireland’s foremost champions of the Irish language, a founder of the increasingly popular Pop-Up Gaeltacht and the Green Party’s Spokesperson for the an Gaeilge. He gives us his take on whether the language is progressing or regressing and on what structural changes could be a game changer. Also in studio with us this time is Fatin Al Tamimi, Chairperson of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (@ipsc48). Israeli forces are still detaining teenager #AhedTamimi, who is quickly becoming a symbol for the resistance. Ahed could be any Palestinian. We delve into the occupation, how, despite media framing, it isn’t a ‘conflict’ at all and the growing successes of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
In the first part of the show, we look at our usual ups and downs, smiles and frowns of the week. We’ve championed whistleblowers in the past and we do again in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica revelations. We also give a big ‘up’ to some timely digital activism from the folks at the Transparent Referendum Initiative (@transparentref).
Not so popular this week: Minister Ross further divides education along class lines and what it really means for the rest of us when a closeness between Sir Paul Hewson and Varadkar is revealed.
Closing track – KNEECAP – AMACH ANOCHT

  • 10: #10 | A Trip Down Millennial Lane
The Suss is back with more news, perspectives, current affairs and craic. Glenn and Steph are joined by two guests, both of whom are communicating issues faced by a locked out generation. Fionn Rogan (@fionnrogan) has written recently for The Irish Times about the impact of the gig economy on millennials and has recently started campaigning to highlight the need to move away from Ireland’s minimum wage to a 'Living Wage’. Also in studio this week is Jana Lyons, campaigner with Glor (@glorteachers) and trade union activist with the INTO. Jana is part of a group of teachers campaigning to highlight the lower starting salaries imposed on primary teachers since 2011.
Ireland’s media receives a couple of thumbs down this week, both for developing levels of closeness between media outlets and the Strategic Communications Unit and the news hysteria with BeastFromTheEast, #StormEmma. Seals of approval this week went to Stormzy speaking truth to power at the Brit Awards and a call by Aoife Moriarty for the law on unpaid internships to change,
Closing music – Death Sentence by Alien She

  • 9: # 9 | The Suss on Scientology
On this week’s episode Glenn and Steph are joined in studio by ex-Scientologist turned critic Pete Griffiths for an in-depth chat about life in one of the world's most famous cults.
Since establishing their European base in Firhouse in 2017, Scientologists have been eager to engage with the local community via open days and even sending reading literature to local schools.
Currently, we are unsure of how many Scientologists are resident in Ireland, as the church likes to keep this private but Pete provides an insightful look into how the church operates and indeed how difficult it is to leave.
We bring back our rewind segment to look at fresh developments regarding the possibility of Irish Public Services Cards being linked to our social network accounts.
Other topics on the table include a big thumbs up for@repeal_ shield - a twitter account helping to block pro-life troll accounts, and Irish Twitter sensation @bigdirtyfry’s hilarious satire of the Irish media.
Getting the down this week from the twosome are BlindBoy Boatclub’s comments about the left and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar’s fresh attacks on welfare cheats.
Playing us out this week is the wonderful Æ MAK back with a brand new single ‘Glow’.
