Where did that saying “sleep is for the weak” come from!? Any parent will tell you that sleep is an essential part of life that helps you function. But, it’s only been in the last decade that in-roads have been made into the power sleep can have over our health, well-being and mental health.

***TRIGGER WARNING*** ANYONE PHOBIC TO PARASITES OR BAD SOUND... we recorded this episode in the home of Dr James, had a great in depth chat about parasites in Sweden and at Förskola... and then realised that the mic had been on the wrong setting. So, loath to record again and miss all the good stuff. We hope you really forgive us! We're on a steep learning curve with this new piece of equipment. Enjoy and listen to the end to find out what the format of future episodes are going to be like!

Really. Struggled. working on this podcast… in fact I put it off and off editing it until I had to. I’m squeamish about two things in life. Vomit and wriggly things. Especially, wriggly things that live on you. BLERGH! After a rash of head lice and pin worms at Förskolas all over Stockholm we agreed to put together a basic guide to parasites for the Barnakuten podcast.

Dr James, literally relishing the idea of being able to use visuals in this episode, I declined. But, the good news is, is that all of the parasites commonly found in Sweden are 100% treatable. PHEW. In the episode we talk about the most common, and about some that aren’t necessarily labelled as parasites but actually are, like Ticks.

    ENJOY ??

  • Episode 19: 1 is the loneliest number
One really is the loneliest number as Jill goes solo on today's podcast. In this week's episode, Jill shares her personal experience of loneliness and isolation and how it brought about Littlebearabroad.com. What's your experience of those first couple of months as an immigrant abroad?

  • Episode 19: 1 is the loneliest number
One really is the loneliest number as Jill goes solo on today’s podcast to talk about how a recent project she’s working on has brought up emotions related to her first couple of months living in Sweden. Isolation and loneliness play a huge role in the success or failure of integration into a new country or community. Particularly, the integration of mothers and children.

  • Episode 18: Stuck Parents
In this weeks episode of the podcast we're talking about something that I feel really strongly about, for various reasons. It dove-tails into a number of areas that I could talk about for hours and hours. Stuck parents, the Hague Convention, child abduction and how immigration and integration is an issue that predominantly impacts women. We're joined by Founder and Chair of Global Action on Relocation & Return with Kids (GlobalArrk.org), Roz Osborne. We talked candidly about how being a stuck parent herself brought about the creation of GlobalArrk.org and how she's now assisting hundreds of people all over the world.

NOTE: Roz wanted me to make an small adjustment to what was said in the podcast. Despite GlobalArrk.org being able to provide the name and numbers of lawyers, they cannot give out legal advice themselves.

  • #3 Ask the Doctor – Jan 2018
Our 17th episode and our third Barnakuten with Dr James. The Swedish vaccine schedule and questions about vaccinations in Sweden are one of the most searched for topics on the Littlebearabroad website. In today's episode we talk about the Swedish vaccine schedule, the recent outbreak of Measles in the south of Sweden, the increasing number of people choosing not vaccinating their children in Sweden and what that means for the rest of us. Of course, we talked about much more, as we do, but we had plenty to say on this topic.

In this week’s  episode we say Happy New Year and welcome back to Dr James. Our third Barnakuten episode is all about vaccines. The Swedish vaccine schedule is one of the most searched for things on our website. It’s also very timely with the news from Gothenburg that a major Measles outbreak is currently taking place. A disease which shouldn’t even exist anymore.

We talk about the background to some of these vaccines, the controversy surrounding them and debate the merits of vaccinating for “the greater good”. Of course, as always, we got totally distracted by many other things and ended up talking about totally different things.

Remember if you have any questions that you’d like to ask Dr James, you can send them via this page on the website.

Keep up to date with the podcast via Instagram, Facebook and of course the website.
