In Joel 1:1-12, the prophet uses a plague of locusts as not only evidence of God’s chastisement against Judah for their sin but also a call back into covenant faithfulness. Though not every circumstance is a direct act of God’s discipline and judgment, God can intervene in our lives in dramatic ways to force us to face our sin and come back into fellowship with Him. How should we respond to God? Through the use of five commands, Joel identifies the way God’s people should respond to God’s chastisement.
