This was a very special tribute show to my dear friend Duane Whittingham. He was part of a tight-knit community of satellite radio enthusiasts. He found this group through his C-Band Satellite dish in the early 1990’s. The group has been through many incarnations but currently is known as Radio Free Dishnuts. This is where I first met him in our Internet Relay Chat. His nickname was RadioDude.
Duane was instrumental in the development and successful launch of Low-Power FM Community Radio station WTND-LP Macomb, IL. On the day the station launched, Duane had laryngitis, but his voice was the first one heard on 106.3 FM. In a gravely voice he christened the station with these words “Giving a voice to the voiceless. We are WTND-LP Macomb, The Voice.”
Duane and I spent many weekends hanging out on our “Man-Dates”. We would spend hours geeking out about anything Star Trek, Doctor Who, Technology or Radio related. We were very close friends so this show was really hard for me to do. I hope you enjoy it. Sorry for the departure of the usual kind of show.
