Tomorrow (Thursday) President Cyril Ramaphosa will be delivering his State of the Nation Address under new joint rules. Yesterday (Wed) National Assembly Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula announced that Parliament has introduced a set of new joint rules designed to regulate proceedings during the joint seating of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces. Mapisa-Nqakula briefed the media on the state of readiness ahead of the address. In the past, proceedings faced a lot of disruptions and delays descending into chaos.

Over the years we’ve been having discussing the on-going problem of teenage pregnancy in the country. The ages are getting younger and younger with many people pointing the finger at older men for sleeping with these children resulting in statutory rape. But then on the other hand there’s also young children experimenting with each other. Calls are also being made for medical staff to be held responsible for not reporting these births. Parents also don’t know any more as they also claim to do the best they can to raise their children well. Sex education is another issue raised with schools being blamed.

Last week we received an anonymous call telling us about a shortage of books at some of the schools in Seshego, a township in Limpopo. He says that in some cases in Zone 1 where he stays the books were not delivered at all. These are no-fee school he was talking about.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says that South Africans showed enthusiasm on the first day of the national registration weekend. The IEC reported that registration got off seamlessly with over 99% of stations operational within minutes of the commencement time of 8 am.
