Dr. Derald Wing Sue is a notable professor of counseling psychology at Columbia University. He has been lauded as a pioneer in multicultural counseling and therapy and the psychology of racism/antiracism.
Dr. Sue defines microaggressions as "everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership."
