Ask someone why they want a certain dress, flower, hairstyle, or tablescape, and eventually you'll probably get some version of: I don't know. I just love it.
And maybe you do.
But there's another possibility: you've seen it enough times that it started to feel like preference.
The more familiar something becomes, the easier it is to process, recognize, and feel comfortable with. Add Pinterest, TikTok, vendor portfolios, wedding publications, and an algorithm that learns what makes you stop scrolling, and suddenly figuring out what you actually like gets a lot more complicated.
In Episode 005 of The Tasteful Dossier, I'm talking about familiarity and taste — how repeated exposure can shape preference, why weddings are especially susceptible to it, how trends reproduce themselves across the industry, and how to tell the difference between something that revealed your taste and something you simply learned to like.
Because the goal isn't to develop taste in a vacuum. That's impossible.
It's to understand why you like what you like.
