In this thought-provoking episode, we explore the often-unspoken feelings of inadequacy that arise when we compare our lives to others'. While scrolling through social media, it's easy to feel like everyone else is progressing—buying homes, getting promotions, and moving forward in a linear fashion. But what happens when your journey feels different?
Join us as we delve into the layers of personal experience, from the structured timelines of medicine to the transformative moments of motherhood and migration. We’ll unpack how these life changes can skew our perceptions of progress and lead to feelings of being “behind.”
Discover how to shift your perspective by questioning societal norms about what it means to be “on time.” Instead of feeling pressured to measure up, learn to appreciate your unique path, pauses, detours, and all.
Together, we’ll embrace the idea that different doesn’t mean delayed. Tune in for insights on recognizing the seasons of your life, acknowledging the progress you’ve made, and understanding that you’re not failing; you’re learning.
“It’s not one big thing… It’s everything.”
In this episode of The Thoughtful Doctor, we explore overwhelm — the quieter kind that builds up over time, where small, everyday demands start to feel like too much.
In the clinic, people don’t usually say “I’m overwhelmed.”
They say, “There’s just a lot on my plate.”
As a GP, ADHD clinician and mum, I see how often this shows up, not as one big problem, but as a build-up of responsibilities, thoughts, and pressures that our mind hasn’t had space to process.
In this episode, we think about:
• why overwhelm builds up gradually
• what’s happening in the brain (including the amygdala, our internal alarm system)
• why our reactions feel different when our capacity is low
• and simple, practical ways to create a bit of space
This isn’t about fixing everything.
It’s about understanding what’s happening… so we can respond with a bit more clarity and a bit less pressure.
“I should have known better.”
Sounds responsible… doesn’t it?
But most of the time, it’s not responsibility.
It’s shame.
And if you’re someone who:
• replays small mistakes in your head
• feels guilty over things other people would brush off
• quietly wonders if you’re “not doing enough” as a parent, partner, or professional this episode is for you.
As a GP and ADHD clinician, I see this pattern all the time.
People aren’t just struggling with what’s happening, they’re struggling with what they tell themselves afterwards.
And as a twin mum, I know this feeling personally.
That moment where something small happen and it somehow becomes a judgement about you.
In this episode of The Thoughtful Doctor, we think about:
• the difference between guilt and shame
• why your brain goes into self-attack mode
• what’s actually happening in your nervous system
• and how self-compassion isn’t “soft”, it’s biological
If you’ve ever felt like you’re being harder on yourself than anyone else would be, this might help you understand why.

I forgot something that mattered.
And the first thought that came up was “How could I forget that?”
In this episode, we slow that thought down and look at what forgetfulness might actually mean.
Not just distraction or carelessness… but how our minds prioritise, register, and sometimes simply run out of space.
Because if something doesn’t get fully registered…
it can’t be remembered.
How do you forget something that actually mattered?
Not the small things…
But something you meant to do.
This episode looks at forgetfulness a little differently, not as carelessness, but as a reflection of how full the mind can get.
Episode 1 coming soon.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering, “Why am I like this?”, you’re probably in the right place.
Welcome to The Thoughtful Doctor, where medicine meets humanity.
A lot of this comes from my lived experience of neurodiversity, my work as a GP, and life as a mum to twins, where I see every day how differently we can think, feel, and experience the world.
This is a space where we slow things down a little and make sense of the everyday things we don’t always stop to think about, from forgetfulness and overwhelm to emotions, parenting, identity, and change.
This isn’t about having all the answers.
It’s about understanding ourselves a little better… in a way that feels human, relatable, and real.
Because the world moves fast…
but understanding people takes time.
