Two fine guests today on the Tim DeMoss Show, starting with Greg Ennis. He's the former VP of Technology for the Wi-Fi Alliance. In 1993, Greg's proposal (along with two collaborators) was adopted as the foundation technology for the international standard that ultimately became WiFi. First up, Jane Ferguson! She serves as a special correspondent for PBS NewsHour, as well as a contributor to The New Yorker. In addition to reporting for the NewsHour across the globe, she has been recognized for award-winning journalism from the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. Ferguson has covered many wars and humanitarian crises of our time. She reported from Yemen as protests grew into the Arab Spring; securing rare access to rebel-held Syria, to cover its civil war. Most notably, when the Taliban took Kabul in 2021, she was one of the last Western journalists to remain at the airport as thousands of Afghans, including some of her colleagues, struggled to evacuate. Her new book, No Ordinary Assignment: A Memoir (July 11th, 2023) reflects on her life – covering many of her many career highlights and triumphs

Next up, Dr. Greg Skomal, marine biologist and author of the new book, Chasing Shadows: My Life Tracking the Great White Shark (July 11, 2023). In the book, the story chronicles the great white shark’s return to the eastern seaboard, told through the life of the scientist who found himself in the oftentimes thankless position of having to balance conservation efforts and the drive to do important science with panic and fear in the court of public opinion.

Tom Hayes, Executive VP & CIO for "Insight For Living with Chuck Swindoll (heard weekdays at 630am & 7pm), hops on the show for a chat about IFL's 44th anniversary this month. On a related note, IFL was one of WFIL's inaugural programs (November '93) when Salem (WFIL's parent company) purchased the station.

Speaking of Salem, its Director of Government Affairs--Nic Anderson (who also serves as GM for four stations in the Twin Cities)--spends a good chunk of time on the show as well. He discusses the value of AM radio and the importance of protecting it moving forward, including regarding certain auto manufacturers potentially not including AM radio it their cars.

The program concludes with "Keep The Son In Your Eyes," a special song written by Toby DeMoss (and performed with Tim DeMoss Jr, Tessa DeMoss and Theodora DeMoss) at the memorial service for Tim's father Robert, who went to be with the Lord at age 95 in March 2023. Leading into the song is an excerpt from a conversation Tim had with Dr. Michael Youssef (from the "Leading The Way" radio program (530pm/3am weekdays on WFIL)), whose book Hope For This Present Crisis we're giving away this month. Dr. Youssef and Tim's father Robert were good friends, and the clip revolves around the notion of finishing our race on Earth well.

John Brazer, Director of Fun and Games for the Philadelphia Phillies, bats leadoff on the program today, to talk about the upcoming Phillies Alumni Weekend (Aug 11-13) including festivities to honor former executive John Quinn (who oversaw drafts & trades that brought Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Larry Bowa, Greg Luzinski and Bob Boone to the Phillies), former executive/owner Ruly Carpenter, and the '83 and '93 NL champions. Brazer, who has worked for the Phillies nearly 30 years, also tells a great story about former Phillies third baseman Scott Rolen, who will be inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York on July 23rd.

Miles Gray, host of the new podcast Outlaws: The Good Thief, also checks in. Gray tells an unusual story of Vassilis Palaikostas, notorious Greek bank robber and folk hero that made a regular habit of sharing the loot with the less fortunate. Gray is based in Los Angeles and has produced, written & directed digital content for YouTube and Conde Nast prior to joining the HowStuffWorks podcast network.
