In 1997, I saw my last movie at the TeePee Drive-In. It was the new suspense-thriller "Anaconda" starring Jennifer Lopez, and it was ... pretty awful. The movie was too dark, the soda tasted terrible, and the popcorn was burnt. But there was still something magical about watching a movie out under the open sky—it harkened back to a time before mine, but even I could appreciate how special and memorable the moment was. That was the last movie I saw before the TeePee Drive-In closed...we all thought for good. The screen stood empty as a reminder of what had once been.Nearly 30 years later, this guy from Sapulpa makes his big-screen debut on that same drive-in, restored to more than its former glory thanks to the generosity of Joni Rogers-Kante and her husband Ben.Today we're recapping that event, and talking about what it could mean for the future of our town as more shows and movies get filmed here.Welcome to the Timeloop, your morning news show on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for all things happening in Sapulpa, Oklahoma! Tune in to learn what's news, what's going on and hear the best of the dad jokes!
