Following the final rest day at the 2020 Tour de France, a large breakaway were allowed up the road and would go on to claim stage victory, with the GC favourites considering the massive mountains that await them in the coming days. The talented Lennard Kämna won his first grand tour stage ahead of Richard Carapaz and Sebastian Reichenbach. Also previewing the queen stage of the race, a mountain-top finish on the Col de La Loze.

Marc Hirschi has come mighty close to his first stage win at the Tour de France on two occasions this year; on stage 2 where he was beaten by Julian Alaphilippe, and on stage 9 where his 90KM solo ride came up agonisingly short. He put that right today with a classy ride into Sarran. Also previewing the resumption of the GC battle on stage 13.

Sam Bennett would win his maiden Tour de France stage on stage 10 of the 2020 Tour de France into Île de Ré. It also saw the Irishman re-gain the green jersey from Peter Sagan, but can he hold onto the jersey into Paris?

An incredible couple of days in the Pyrenees at the 2020 Tour de France draw to a close. Today, we saw a spectacular solo-attack from Marc Hirschi, who was denied in heartbreaking fashion after being caught by the best GC riders in the final few kilometers. Tadej Pogacar would beat fellow Slovenian Primoz Roglic in the finishing sprint.

Stage 8 of the 2020 Tour de France today as we hit the Pyrenees, where there would be delight for Nans Peters as he claimed his maiden TDF win from the breakaway. Lots of GC action with Pogacar gaining time, but home-favorite Thibaut Pinot would drop away from GC contention.

The 2020 Tour de France burst into life with a spectacular stage 7. From Millau to Lavaur, on paper, we were set for a mass sprint. However, from kilometre zero, BORA-Hansgrohe powered to the front of the peloton and dropped the majority of the pure sprinters, including stage favourites Sam Bennett and Caleb Ewan. Later crosswinds would cause echelons, seeing GC favourites lose over a minute, including Mikel Landa, Tadej Pogacar and Bauke Mollema. In the end, a heavily reduced group would fight for the stage, where Wout van Aert would win his second Tour de France stage in a matter of days.

Stage 6 of the 2020 Tour de France would be the first gifted to the breakaway by the peloton. A strong breakaway would form early, including Greg van Avermaet, Alexey Lutsenko, as well as my picks from yesterday, Nico Roche and Jesus Herrada. The Kazak would end up being by far the strongest man in the breakaway group and won his first Tour de France stage at the age of 27. No major changes would take place in the GC, meaning Adam Yates retains the yellow jersey.

For the first time in recent memory, a breakaway failed to form on a stage not heading to Paris at the Tour de France. An exceptionally odd occurrence, which led to a slow day for both the riders and the onlookers. Wout van Aert won the mass sprint in front of Cees Bol of Team Sunweb, after a fantastic lead-out by the German outfit. Julian Alaphilippe also lost the yellow jersey in controversial fashion. The Maillot Jaune now sits on the shoulders of Brit, Adam Yates.
