The Tipsy Exchange | Movies, Mysteries & More

Santa Claus is coming to town, but he's not traveling alone. In the very first episode of The Tipsy Exchange, Berly and LA raise a glass and ask: who is Krampus?

The half-goat, half-demon of Central European Christmas folklore has a surprisingly messy history. It involves the church, a government ban, and Krampus Night (Krampusnacht), which is apparently a party. Berly digs into where Santa's dark companion came from and why he refuses to go away. LA reacts to some vintage Krampus Christmas cards that are way more disturbing than you'd expect. The hosts also get into Bellsnickel's appearance in The Office, the 2015 Krampus horror movie with Adam Scott and Toni Collette, and why Christmas might be the perfect season for horror.

Then things go completely off the rails. Just what exactly is Santa's relationship with Krampus? And what does any of this have to do with goat cheese? You'll have to listen to find out.

Rookie alert: This is our first episode EVER. We're brand-new podcasters, so please be patient with us. If Berly sounds a little far away, that's because she may have forgotten to plug in her microphone. We're learning, we're tipsy, and we promise the audio gets better from here.

This week's toast: Reddit user Phoenix V8 gives us: "A toast to those who wish me well, and all the rest can go to hell." Cheers!

Tell us what you think! Were you on the naughty list this year? Would you try Krampus cheese? Leave a comment and let us know. If you laughed even once, or if you just feel sorry for our rookie selves, please leave a rating and review on your favorite podcast app. It really helps new listeners find the show.

Please drink responsibly.
