Are you going through life choosing the safe option? Whether it’s the college you’re applying to or the career path you think you want, there’s no guarantee that the safe option is the right one for you. Sometimes, not knowing what your trajectory will look like can be the catalyst to finding your greatness and creativity. When in doubt, opt for the road less traveled because there are so many different ways of getting to where you want to go.
In this episode, I’m talking to Professor Anna Krakus, professor, writer, Fulbright scholar, and previous admissions committee member at the University of Southern California. Professor Krakus is currently the assistant professor at the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies at the University of Copenhagen and has previously taught Slavic and Comparative Literature at the University of Southern California.
During our conversation, Professor Krakus talks about her life’s trajectory and how her brave choices have positively impacted her university experience. We also discuss the power of embracing discomfort, why being brave might look like choosing the road less traveled, and believing that every new thing will be better or different or more exciting than what you have now.
What We Cover:
- Picking the safe option vs. exploring and taking risks in college
- What a Fulbright Scholarship is & how it can open doors
- Why big-name universities aren’t always the right fit
- How to be an impressive student wherever you go to college
- The benefits of choosing the road less traveled
”What most people don't understand is that it's you that is going to succeed, that's going to get the job, that writes the book, that starts the business. It's not Harvard. Harvard isn't sitting in the library until midnight writing a book or applying for jobs. You are doing that and you can be successful regardless of where you go to college and whether or not. It's up to you.” - Professor Anna Krakus
