This week, in our third episode within our mini-series on Social Determinants of Health, the Triage explores the components of Food, Community and Social Context, and the overlap between the two.  We break down numerous concepts in this episode including the harmful nature of “volunteerism”, what exactly is cultural appropriation, and the difference between food charity and food justice.

In this week’s episode, The Triage breaks down what brought the three of us together: education. Black Lives Matter.  On this episode of The Triage, hosts Christie and Natalie discuss the “sudden” media coverage of the Black Lives Matter movement and how to be an actively anti-racist ally.  They continue to explain why racism is a public health issue and introduce the new mini-series that will explore the social determinants of health and how those factors interact with different identities. Hello and welcome to the first episode of the Triage podcast! This podcast, as a whole, will be focused on the cracks in our healthcare system from the eyes of young people. As COVID-19 has created a spotlight on our complicated healthcare system, we will begin with a series on this global pandemic.
