Caitlyn Jenner Loves Ted Cruz and Donald Trump but hates Hillary Clinton. ESPN’s Arthur Ashe Courage Award Winner Caitlyn Jenner started the second season of her reality show I Am Cait with a bombshell. She wants to be the transgender ambassador in a Ted Cruz presidency. Let’s explore what this delusional reclusive privileged rich white male turned delusional reclusive privileged rich white female has to say about presidential politics and how that’s impacting the success of her show.

This is a case of Jenner’s money leading her political beliefs instead of leading with her personal rights. Anyone can convince themselves of anything. And in Jenner’s case she’s convinced herself that her bank account speaks louder than her sexual identity.

So let me educate you Ms. Jenner on your love for a Christian Right candidate whose voter base is looking to roll back the clock on all minority rights. The Washington, D.C. Office of Human Rights recently conducted a study that found that nearly half of surveyed employers would prefer a less-qualified candidate over someone they perceived to be transgender and a 2011 National Transgender Discrimination Survey found that transgender people are four times more likely to be living in extreme poverty with a household income of less than $10,000 and they experience double the rate of unemployment than your average US citizen.

And as far as your love affair with Ted Cruz let me remind you that he was front and center in Houston’s equal rights ordinance quietly called the bathroom bill which would have forced transgender women to submit to a humiliating “genital check” if they wanted to use the ladies’ room. Cruz is quoted as saying ‘I don’t want my daughters taking showers with little boys’ and that’s just the tip of the iceberg with this guy. He opposes The Equality Act, a law which would protect transgender people from discrimination in employment. In fact, he once even said that he believes a gay florist should be able to discriminate against a Christian couple just to ensure that a Christian florist can continue to discriminate against a same-sex couple.

Cruz has said he’d appoint justices to overturn same-sex marriage and even supported the idea that sodomy should be illegal again. He’s called marriage equality “fundamentally illegitimate, lawless, and unconstitutional”. He introduced the State Marriage Defense Act which would have caused same-sex couples to become “unmarried” when they crossed the border into a state that didn’t recognize their marriages and he’s a primary sponsor of the First Amendment Defense Act, which would enable discrimination against same-sex couples.

And the idea that you would be the trans ambassador to a Ted Cruz presidency is completely delusional. In the Advocate article you are quoted as saying “Wouldn’t it be great, let’s say he goes on to be president, and I have all my girls on a trans issues board to advise him on making decisions when it comes to trans issues. Isn’t that a good idea? Yes, trans ambassador to the president of the United States, so we can say, ‘Ted, love what you’re doing but here’s what’s going on.”

That’s like a Jew saying to Hitler I love what you’re doing to unite Europe but here’s what I think you should do for the Jews. It’s completely delusional!! I’d like to see the crowd’s response when Caitlyn attends a Cruz rally. I’m guessing it would turn into a Trump rally pretty quick.

Now here’s how you know money talks with Jenner far more than her political beliefs. She bashed Hillary Clinton on her show saying “If we’re unfortunate enough to get Hillary as our next president, we need her on our side. Although she won’t be. She couldn’t care less about women. She only cares about herself.” That was before the first episode of season 2 aired to a horrendous seven hundred forty thousand viewers and a point three (.3) rating

In the revisionist world of Donald Trump let’s not forget that he publicly mocked Serge Kovaleski, a journalist with a physically disability at a Trump rally. Trump claims to have never met Kovaleski, despite the reporter having written about Trump’s troubled business dealings for the N.Y. Daily News from 1987 to 1993; when Kovaleski had interviewed Trump in his office at Trump Tower and at a dozen press conferences throughout the years.

When asked specifically about having met Kovaleski, Trump’s response was to slam the New York Times for asking the question and disgustingly claim Kovaleski was grandstanding on his disability. Here’s the Quote: “Somebody at the financially failing and totally biased New York Times said that, over the years, I have met Mr. Kovaleski. Serge Kovaleski must think a lot of himself if he thinks I remember him from decades ago — if I ever met him at all, which I doubt I did. He should stop using his disability to grandstand and get back to reporting for a paper that is rapidly going down the tubes.” Absolutely Disgusting!

This is the man that went on television and proclaimed there were thousands of Muslim’s dancing on rooftops in Jersey City way before the election. Here is Donald Trump’s Quote: “I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering.”

Trump claims to be a great business man but when you look at his business today all it is is a rubber stamping of his name on things. Trump is itself the brand and the man has zero to do with the management of these businesses that sport his name.

A perfect example is Trump’s Steak House at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, which was sited for 51 health violations including, ready to gag: expired yogurt, month old caviar, two week old tomato sauce, expired peanut dressing, an improperly functioning freezer, five month old duck, undercooked halibut and improperly thawed raw tuna.

Reason 4: Trump’s Extramarital Affairs

The divorce from Ivana was particularly public as her and Marla had it out in the tabloids. At one point Ivana screamed at Marla to leave her husband alone. Trump certainly doesn’t back down from his infidelities. At one point Donald had a radio show called Trumped! That ran from 2004 to 2008 and infidelity was a continual topic of the show. At one point he shared his disappointment with Boeing’s decision to fire an executive because of an extra-marital affair. He said quote: “If you really did a poll, I would bet you most of the powerful men running companies are having affairs.” Lovely!! It’s surprising how Mike Pence would affiliate himself with a man like this.

Trump has continually boasted about his charitable givings. He has often tied his charity pledges to new products coming on the market. In 1988 when his book The Art of the Deal came out he promised a portion of the proceeds would go to fight homelessness, for Vietnam Veterans, AIDS and Multiple Sclerosis. Based on the success of the book those types of charities should have ended up with several million dollars.

However, the truth is that he gave $101K dollars to veterans organizations, $26K dollars to fight homelessness, less than $13K dollars for AIDS charities and only $4K dollars to multiple-sclerosis research. All the other donations went to charities related to Trump’s life including his high school and college. The School of American Ballet, where Ivanka Trump studied and a private school that educated Trump’s son Eric both got more than the AIDS and multiple sclerosis contributions combined.

Nostradamus is just one of many prophets who use allegorical poetry to provide vague descriptions of things to come. Since the beginning of mankind people have believed some of us hold incredible powers to prophetically see into the future. Some people are using those prophecies to point at Donald Trump and hold him up as a beacon of light while others are calling him the bringer of doom. Prophecy is the basis of many of our core religious beliefs. We are in the end just scared mammals frightened of the dark. So when someone comes forward claiming they can see past the present and into the future many of us fall to our knees for guidance.

It is then up to the reader to interpret and connect the historical relevance to what is written. For example some people are pointing to Nostradamus’s Century 5, Quatrain 19 and saying it refers specifically to Donald Trump. Let me read it to you:

The great Royal one of gold, augmented by brass,

Do you see how vague this is. The use of the word “gold” is what’s got everyone pointing to it because it’s a well known fact Trump likes to use gold to emblazon his name and interior elements of his buildings with that color. But let’s breakdown the rest of the quatrain. “augmented by brass” well if Donald Trump becomes president he will most likely fill his cabinet with experienced war veterans. So he will be augmented by brass.

Now when it says “The agreement broken” Sure very easy connection here because it’s well known that Trump wishes to dissolve the TPP and other trade negotiations with countries like China. But when Nostradamus writes “war opened by a young man” followed by “People afflicted because of a lamented chief” is he saying someone is going to try to assassinate Trump and in so doing the people of America will become ill? And then the final part “The land will be covered with barbarian blood.” Our land? America? Or is he talking about Europe and the refugee crisis.

Let’s start with “The great Royal one of gold, augmented by brass”. This can easily be interpreted as Tunisia’s ruling dictator and his family prior to the uprising along with his security forces. Ben Ali and his family were accused of plundering the country’s money. The First Lady was described as an “unabashed shopaholic” who used the state airplanes to make frequent unofficial trips to Europe’s fashion capitals.

“The agreement broken, war opened by a young man” well the catalyst for the escalation of protests in Tunisia was the death of a young fruit seller who had his stand confiscated by a municipal inspector for no apparent reason. The young man doused himself with gasoline and set himself afire thus starting the Tunisian Revolution, which eventually spread and turned into the Arab Spring and brings us to the next part of the Quatrain “People afflicted because of a lamented chief.” That certainly sounds like what happened In Egypt when Hosni Mubarak was forced to resign ending his 30-year presidency and violent protests continued to the end of 2011.

Finally, Nostradamus writes “The land will be covered with barbarian blood.” Everything that has happened since the Arab Spring falls into this line. The rise of ISIS, the fall of Syria, the murder and imprisonment of civilians throughout all Arab countries affected by the uprising.

So you see prophecies like these are so vague they can fit nearly every major world event. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t cause for concern when it comes to Donald Trump. For many, Donald Trump represents the voice of an angry middle class figh

The national news media would have you believe this is the worst political bashing of candidate wives in the history of American politics. But that simply isn’t the case. I took a look at past campaigns throughout this nation’s history and what I found may shock you.

In the last 96 years since women won the right to vote, each presidential candidate’s wife has had to learn the trials of being visibly active on the campaign trail. It has never been an easy role to fill. As a public figure caught between society’s conflicting notions of what a potential president’s wife and her role in the white house should be.

Smearing of presidential candidate’s wives is almost as old as America itself. In fact the first documented bashing starts with Dolly Madison in 1808. Federalist candidate Charles C. Pinckney circulated the rumor that James Madison made his wife sexually available to Thomas Jefferson in order to gain his endorsement essentially making her a political whore. It didn’t stop there. She was also bashed for her lavish spending and comments were made about the size of her breasts during the campaign.

The election of 1828 will go down in history as among the ugliest mudslinging that focused on a candidate’s family. Andrew Jackson’s wife, Rachel became the center of controversy when it was learned she hadn’t officially been divorced from her first husband when she married Jackson in 1791. For this she faced daily assaults in newspapers supportive of the rival party, accused of bigamy and ridiculed for being fat and uneducated. The assaults took a terrible toll on her and she died of heart failure soon after the election and just before Jackson was sworn into office. Jackson’s mother was also in the crosshairs of incumbent John Quincy Adams who called her a common prostitute brought to the country by British soldiers.

Things didn’t get much better by 1886 when Frances Cleveland married to then president Grover Cleveland had to issue an unprecedented public denial due to vicious rumors that she was cheating on him and that he beat her. This marked the first time in history a president’s wife had to publicly address rumors of her private life.

Ten years later, in 1896, opponents of William McKinley had a smear campaign against his wife claiming she was mentally ill and confined to an institution. Sadly, Ida McKinley actually had epilepsy and during fits in public William would drape a handkerchief over her head to conceal the seizure and calm her down. In order to quell the rumors the campaign issued a biography of Ida that said she suffered from a nervous condition.

Personal attacks like these continued into modern day with Dwight D. Eisenhower’s wife Mamie slandered for appearing to always be drunk a condition that was misinterpreted due to her inner ear problem.

Betty Ford’s substance abuse was fodder for President Gerald Ford’s rivals and Vice President Nelson Rockefeller’s second wife Happy Rockefeller was accused of adultery due to an immediate marriage to one another after both divorced their first spouses.

Kitty Dukakis the wife of democratic candidate Michael Dukakis was practically destroyed during her husband’s bid for the white house. She was accused of taking part in radical activities including flag burning and being an alcoholic. The second of which was true and revealed in her memoir where she also stated she’d undergone electroconvulsive therapy in order to treat major depression due to her husband’s defeat in the campaign for the white house.

Even Cindy McCain the wife of John McCain was the target of a smear campaign that painted her as an addict. George W. Bush’s team invented a rumor that McCain’s adopted daughter was in fact his illegitimate black child out of wedlock. This lie sold incredibly well during the South Carolina primary to which McCain lost to Bush.

So when you see the

Arthur C. Clarke’s 1953 science fiction novel Childhood’s End has finally been adapted into a television series, which aired the second week of December last year.

Arthur C. Clarke’s idea for the book began with his short story Guardian Angel published in 1946, which later became the first part of Childhood’s End. Published in 1953, the first printing sold out extremely quickly due to several good reviews and put Clarke on the map as a well respected science fiction author. Though the book is often regarded by both readers and critics as Clarke’s best novel.

In the 1960s, director Stanley Kubrick was interested in making a film adaptation of the novel, but another director had already optioned it. So instead, Kubrick collaborated with Arthur C. Clarke on adapting the short story The Sentinel into what eventually became the critically acclaimed 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The next scene brings us back to present day 2016 and a fleet of massive alien spaceships have appeared in the skies. Mankind dubs the aliens ‘the Overlords’ and they speak through a chosen emissary, a farmer named Ricky Stormgren played by Mike Vogel of Under the Dome fame. He only has contact with one of the aliens, the ‘Supervisor for Earth’ named Karellen, played by Charles Dance better known as Tywin Lannister on Games of Thrones, who hides himself away not allowing anyone to see what the alien race actually looks like. The Overlords proceed to eliminate disease, war, hunger, and pollution, bringing on the Golden Age of Humanity but it takes another 15 years before they are ready to reveal to the world what they look like. Now I hadn’t read the book so I was really in for a shocker when Karellen came down the stairs hand in hand with two small children emissaries and it was revealed that he looked like the devil. And boy the computer graphics on this thing was amazing.

The next night’s episode fast forwards to 2035 and life on Earth is blissful. Slowly though we see that not everything is as it should be. There have been a scattering of children with high cognitive skills and Peretta Jones played by Yael Stone of Orange is the New Black, tries to counsel one of the children. There’s a lot of science fiction mixed with spirituality which is great but I’m not going to try to explain it in this review instead just go with the idea that a new higher species of man evolves and brings forth the apocalypse. And let me just say it was so refreshing to see an apocalypse that yes we caused but more in our reluctance to ask questions than via mutual thermonuclear destruction.

The final night of the series jumps forward four years and we see the evolved human now able to communicate with all the other children. Karellen announces to the world that all of the children will be gathered together, that no more children will be born, and that the adults are free to live out their lives as they wish. The children begin to float up into the sky, which was slightly hoaky but impactful.

Milo, the guy from the first scene, stows away on an Overlord ship and is transported to their homeworld where he witnesses a being of vast cosmic intelligence. Milo is shown the true meaning of the universe and returns to Earth to witness the moment the children join the intelligence, which unfortunately is the same moment the Earth is destroyed. He offers to transmit a report to Karellen of the final moments and asks Karellen in return to leave behind some memento of Earth’s culture, and Karellen obliges.

And that’s it. The end. No long running series. No sequel. Just a great story told over three nights. Believe me I wish Hollywood was more willing to make these types of short lived shows. Good storytelling doesn’t have to require multiple seasons or sequels.

Somewhere at the bottom of your netflix cue is probably a little movie starring Daniel Radcliffe and Max Minghella called Horns. I’m gonna tell you if you should move that up to the front of your cue and watch it this weekend. Oh and I promise absolutely no spoilers with this one. Enjoy!

Wikipedia describes Horns as an American dark fantasy horror film and I’m not sure I completely agree with that. I’d call it a dark spiritual crime drama? Truth is, it’s a hot mess. Not necessarily and mess though. When you think the movie is going in one direction it quickly turns a corner and goes in another.

The film is loosely based on Joe Hill’s novel Horns and directed by Alexandre Aja. I never read Horns so I don’t have anything to compare it too and honestly I don’t have any movie to compare this too either. Hollywood pitches are notorious for combining movies together to give an example of what the movie is going to be like. So maybe this is Black Dahlia and Fantastic Four meets The Seventh Sign and Stand By Me? It’s a weird movie.

Here’s the premise, Daniel Radcliffe stars as Ig, who becomes the prime suspect when his girlfriend Merrin is raped and murdered. Despite his declarations of innocence, he is shunned by the community, and only his childhood friend and lawyer Lee seems to believe him. He hides away from the press by staying with his parents and brother Terry.

After drinking heavily Ig wakes up the day after a vigil for Merrin with a pair of horns protruding from his head. The horns make people tell Ig their darkest secrets and desires. Some hilarity ensues but it’s more of an entertaining chuckle than a full on laugh out loud kind of thing.

Ig starts to use the power of the horns to prove his innocence by getting people to tell him the truth. He gains additional powers like being able to touch someone’s skin and see what they saw and the ability to attract every snake in the town. I don’t know if you’d call that a power but it helps move the story along.

And that’s about as far as I’m going to go into explaining the storyline because from their the crazy train that is this movie really jumps the third rail and goes from being a lighthearted whodunit to a weirdly spiritual pseudo religious bible belt movie. And I got it and I liked it but I think if Alexandre Aja had pushed it any further I would have felt I’d been tricked into watching a Christian based movie. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Just that I like knowing what I’m getting myself into before hand.

I think someone who’s a little more into religion will like the ending better and someone who’s really outside of religion or even offended by it should probably stay away from this movie.

Overall I liked this movie. I think the acting was excellent. There are a lot of really great cameos and Radcliffe and Minghella do a great job. It’s just not a movie for everyone and I think that’s probably why it’s not at the top of your Netflix list.

I know I give a lot of B+ in my reviews but to me a B is average and so many things that I watch tend to be slightly above average. If I gave everything an A rating then it wouldn’t mean anything when I said you absolutely must see a film or something like that.

So Horns B+. If you’re home and it’s a rainy day and you’ve got some time to kill, watch it. It’s good.

Every once in awhile a show comes along that is so different from the recycled movie scripts taking up the majority of Broadway theater today you feel compelled to tell everyone you know about it. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is just that type of production. Here’s my review and why I suggest you run to see it before it closes in September.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a play adapted from the book by Mark Haddon. The story surrounds an autistic boy his neighbor’s dead dog and the relationship he has with his parents and school mentor.

The play started in London’s West End and quickly came to Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in 2014. It won the 2015 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play, 2015 Outer Critics Circle Award Outstanding New Broadway Play, the 2015 Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Broadway or Off-Broadway Play, and the 2015 Tony Award for Best Play.

I don’t feel it’s fair for me to detail the play’s plot as it’s nearly impossible to do so without giving away some spoilers. Instead, I’ll tell you that this play is so wonderful that I saw twice in the same month. First, my mother’s husband took her and I to the show with second row tickets, which for true theatre goers you know can be both a blessing and a curse.

Being that close to the action immediately bonds you to the events happening on stage. A good play becomes a great play and a bad play becomes the worst night of your life. The set design of this show includes complex LED displays on all three sides of the theater as well as the floor. Sitting in the front you lose the floor display making front-center mezzanine the best seats in the house.

Seeing the play twice so close together meant I had the opportunity to explore the same actor’s ability and depth of performance. Christopher Boone the lead character was played by Tyler Lea making his Broadway debut after graduating from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and doing a stint in Cygnet’s Shakespeare’s R+J.

I actually had to do a little research into what Cygnet’s Shakespeare’s R+J meant because the way it was written in the playbill made it seem as though there was a minor character named Cygnet in Romeo and Juliet and I knew that wasn’t right. What I found was that Cygnet is the production house and Shakespeare’s R+J was a 1997 off Broadway play whereby all the characters from Romeo and Juliet are played by men.

To say that Tyler Lea’s performance in the lead role was good is an understatement. In fact he’s mesmerizing. To play this type of character so early in an actor’s career is a stunning accomplishment and reminds me of a young Daniel-Day Lewis in the movie My Left Foot.

What’s truly fascinating about both the script and stage direction is it requires the lead to not only become the character and know his lines but it’s so specific on where and what he’s doing on stage and it becomes as important to the storytelling as the interaction and dialogue between the characters. You’re probably thinking that’s the case for every show on Broadway and really every play that’s out there in the world. And yet something’s very different with this play, again I don’t want to give any spoilers out but Christopher needs to complete something he’s been working on throughout the first act in order for the show to move forward. That just shows how truly talented this actor is.

Another fun aspect of the show is that it’s a play-within-a-play and the fourth wall gets broken at times. This does a great job at keeping the modern distracted audience engaged. There are even elements outside the stage that interact with the audience; particularly if you’re sitting in a prime number seat.
