Voter enthusiasm for a candidate will dictate voter engagement but it could all fall flat due to voter exhaustion. The past four years were already politically exhausting in the United States. (Remember when we thought impeachment was going to be the big story in 2020?) But drop a deadly pandemic into the mix, complete with an economic shutdown and historic job losses, and the mental exhaustion may be enough to keep voters on the sidelines.
