The Israeli military is withdrawing from the Netzarim Corridor in Gaza. In the ceasefire deal, the deadline for them to do so completely, is Sunday. The Netzarim Corridor is a military zone about six-kilometres wide, that splits northern Gaza from the rest of the strip. Israeli forces have built military bases there, after taking over buildings and destroying homes.

Basem Naim, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, has told Al Jazeera from Istanbul that Israel keeps playing “dirty games” to undermine the ceasefire deal. He said the group warned the mediators, including the US, that the Israeli violations – the delays in aid deliveries as well as killing Palestinians in Gaza – could threaten the agreement.

South Africa has defended a new land reform law after US President Donald Trump threatened to cut funding in response. The Bill allows the government to take control of some property deemed in the public interest, without compensation in some cases. Trump said he would stop all future funding until the situation was investigated.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians have returned to northern Gaza, celebrating despite the devastation. Authorities report 300,000 made the journey within 72 hours after Israeli forces opened the Netzarim corridor. The UN estimates most buildings across Gaza have been destroyed, with northern Gaza hit hardest. Many now shelter in ruined UN buildings with little access to food or water. Displacement since 2023 left families homeless the longest. Returning Palestinians reject any proposals to relocate them abroad, vowing to stay despite the harsh conditions.

Extraordinary and emotional scenes in the occupied West Bank and Gaza as 110 Palestinian prisoners are released after a delay imposed by Israeli authorities. Around 30 children are among the Palestinian prisoners released. At least 32 of them were serving life sentences.

Tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians in Gaza are crossing the so-called Netzarim Corridor and returning home to their loved ones in the north of the Strip for the first time since Israel’s war on the enclave began.

Israeli forces have killed fifteen people in Southern Lebanon, including a soldier. The military fired at people as they were trying to return home. At least 83 others have been injured. Israel was due to withdraw on Sunday, as part of an agreement reached in November.
