This is episode 71 of The Truth Tank.

On September 26th, 2022, several underwater explosions were detected on the Nord Stream NS1 and NS2 pipelines, resulting in multiple gas leaks in 3 out of the 4 pipelines. The Nord Stream pipeline is located in international waters in the Baltic Sea and transports natural gas from Russia to Germany, with the majority of the infrastructure being Russian Owned. 

In the episode, we take a deep and detailed dive into the pipeline’s destruction and the investigations that followed. what is Nord Stream? What happened? Who are the suspects? And Why was it targeted? We’ll explore four different perspectives on the incident from four countries that were either affected by the pipeline’s destruction or are suspected of having some involvement in it. 

The pipeline’s destruction released approximately 800 million cubic meters of methane gas into the atmosphere. What are the potential environmental impacts of such a massive release? Who stands to gain from the pipeline being taken out of commission? What does it mean for energy supplies across Europe? Explosive traces were found on a nearby yacht, suggesting sabotage may have played a role and potentially, a cover-up.

The big question remains: Who is behind it?

This is episode 70 of The Truth Tank.

This is the 2nd Weekly Tank Episode, where I will be reviewing A Complete Unknown. The Bob Dylan bio-pic starring Timothee Chalamet, Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook and Scoot McNairy, Directed by James Mangold.

The film is much more than the average musical bio-pic, set in 1961 New York, a young Bob Dylan arrives in a new city with just the clothes on his back, a guitar, a notebook and a dream of meeting his musical idols. The film looks at Bob’s rise to fame, conflict with the Folk Music establishment and his turbulent transition to electric.

I will also be looking at how A Complete Unknown compares to other music bio-pics, some of my personal favourite bands and how they have changed styles over the years, the films attention to detail, Chalamet’s transformation as Bob and the thrill of seeing Bob Dylan Live.

This is episode 68 of The Truth Tank.

This Episode is the first Weekly Tank. The Weekly Tank will look at current events, sport, strange stories, entertainment and more in-between the bigger shows. In this episode, We will be looking at Disney’s decision to discontinue physical media in Australia, New Zealand and most of the Southern Hemisphere due to declining sales. 

No one can deny there has been a decline in physical media sales, however Disney has a vested interest in signing up as many people as possible to Disney+ hence their and other Streaming Giants like Netflix crusade to destroy physical media to drive subscriptions over to them. 

The last Disney DVD/Blu Ray to be released was Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in 2023. Here lies the problem, Disney own 20th Century Fox, Lucasfilm and Marvel and their vast collections of legacy IPs such as Star Wars, Aliens, Planet of the Apes & Indiana Jones to name a few. 

In recent years they have pumped out theatrical released sequels and no physical copies, so if you want to buy in the southern hemisphere you'd have to source them from overseas retailers. If a film is released in a cinemas, it should be available to buy everywhere, unfortunately this trend will continue around the world. Can Film Fans and directors like Christopher Nolan help turn the decline in physical media sales and save DVDs/BRs for future generations and film history?

This is episode 67 of The Truth Tank.

We will be continuing our look at the terror attacks/explosion on NYE in New Orleans and Las Vegas. In Part Two, We will look at the CyberTruck explosion outside of Trump Hotel in Las Vegas and Matthew Livelsberger, the man who carried out the explosion in the CyberTruck. Who was he? Why did he shoot himself before detonating an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) outside of Trump Hotel? It is a weird case, and something just doesn’t add up.

Livelsberger was an Army Green Beret who had recently returned back to the US from being deployed overseas; He had suffered from mental health issues, PTSD and had history of a traumatic brain injury, filled a rented CyberTruck with legally bought fireworks and drove the CyberTruck to the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas on New Years Day. 

Is there any connection to the events in New Orleans?

Livelsberger left a note on a phone which was found in the CyberTruck explaining his actions and that he wanted to draw attention to Alleged war crimes committed in 2019. Is this a case of PTSD or something more nefarious? His military ID, driver's license, phones and two firearms were found in the burnt CyberTruck which begs the question if his body was so badly burned in the explosion, How did his personal belongings survive such an intense blast?

This is episode 66 of The Truth Tank. 

This is Part 1 of a 2 part look into the events that took place on New Years Eve 2024. The New Years Eve Terror Attack in New Orleans and the CyberTruck Explosion outside of Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. Beginning with the events that unravelled on New Years Eve in Bourbon Street when a former US Army veteran planted IEDs before driving a rented truck into a crowd before being killed in a shoot out with the police.

Both the New Orleans and Las Vegas have some striking similarities; both used rented vehicles via the same app, and they both involved explosives and firearms. In Part One, we will be diving deep into the motivations and background of the New Orleans attacker. Why did he carry out this attack? He had a decent job and had served his country. What could possibly possess someone like this to take 14 innocent lives?

Attacks like these are on the rise globally. Are the attacks in New Orleans part of a bigger network? What can be done about it? Can the use of Artificial Intelligence help screen potential suspects preventing future attacks? And what can be done to turn disillusioned people looking for an outlet to channel their hate through from the path of terror?

This is episode 64 of The Truth Tank

On this episode, We will be looking at the rise in cashless payments and the decline in the use of cash aka The Great Cashless Conspiracy. Is the decline in cash simply down to the rise in online shopping? Convenience? or the by-product of an ever-digitalised world? Other factors are the repercussions of the Pandemic lockdowns, new forms of currency, digital payment providers and shifting retail markets. However, are there other reasons? We seem to have less and less choice when it comes to spending our own money.

Is there something more behind the Cashless Conspiracy? Is there an agenda being pushed? Are the germs and bacteria found on paper money really that bad? Is it that unsafe to carry cash? One of the biggest arguments against going cashless is the unreliability and safety of modern technology infrastructure. Data breaches and hacks are a everyday concern nowadays, combine that with natural disasters, regional areas, vulnerable communities, geographic locations and people in abusive relationships, and it doesn’t look like cash will be going anywhere soon.

By far one of the most anger inducing aspects of the cashless argument is the hidden Surcharges for using cashless payments, which seem to be everywhere. If it's not a scam I don’t know what is? Especially when businesses and venues are completely cashless leaving the customer with one payment option. We're living in a world where we accept extra charges for spending our own money. What's next Surcharges to breath clean air? Are Surcharges just a sneaky way to gouge more money from people or Are there other reasons for the rise in cashless venues, such as data tracking and traceable records? We’ve all seen the tech wanker struggling to get a smart watch to work in the payment line, what are we really trading for the convenience of a cashless society? Freedom of choice, privacy or more. Cash will always be king.

This is episode 63 of The Truth Tank 

On this episode, I will be reviewing possibly one of the most unnecessary sequels ever made, Gladiator II. It’s been 24 yrs since the release of Ridley Scott’s Oscar winning masterpiece Gladiator. I still remember the day I saw it in the cinema. Gladiator has stood the test of time and is still as relevant today as it was in 2000. 

Will Gladiator II hold up as well? Or Is it just a Big Budget Action Film cashing in on the legacy of the first film? The sequel transports us back to the world of Ancient Rome in all of its spectacular gory glory. Modern advancements in CGI have brought Rome to life in a way we haven’t seen before; a grimy, decaying and lived in city as opposed to the gleaming idea of what we might picture Rome to look like. Much like the first film, Gladiator II blends practical sets and effects with the latest visual effects. 

Gladiator II is big and bold, boosting a pretty epic cast to match including Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Jospeh Quinn and Fred Hechinger. It’s a film full of ridiculousness, Rhinos and more sub plots than you can poke a Gladius at. Ridley has upped the action in a big way this time around, Lucius played by Mescal is forced to fight as a Gladiator after his home is attacked by The Romans leading him on path to his past and ultimately his destiny. It is an action-packed thrill ride from start to finish filled with more action and political intrigue than Game Of Thrones. 

We will be taking a deep dive into the world of Gladiator, starting with a look back at what made the first film so iconic and special. Then moving on to the review of the Gladiator II as wells the historical accuracy of the film, filling the Colosseum with water, sharks, Rhinos, newspapers, ruins and much more. Is it Thumbs up? Or Thumbs down?

This is episode 62 of The Truth Tank.

On this episode, We will be looking at Australia’s Digital ID System.  What is Australia’s digital ID? What does it mean? What does it do? and Why is it being proposed? What’s wrong with good Ol’ fashioned analogue IDs? Digital ID is meant to protect users from oversharing personal information to potential employers, pubs, businesses, proving your ID, getting a passport or filling out a form. 

The system is being proposed on the grounds it will make it convenient and easy for users; to prove they are who they say they are, cut down on paperwork and the need to find and bring those pesky paper ID documents when they try to get a phone, passport or insurance etc. However, there are some glaringly obvious flaws with the system such as uploading personal information onto a government website/app, won’t that make it much easier to lose personal info to hacking and data breaches? How are we protected from fraud if all our IDs are online? The government promises the system will be safe, but nothing is 100% safe online.

Given the Australian government track record in the past 20 years implementing new schemes and systems the public has a right to be sceptical and concerned about yet another online system coming online that is flawed and untested. Robo Debt, The NBN (National Broadband Network) and My Health Record are just a few examples of the governments greatest hits regarding new and flawed technological systems. 

In the last few years data breaches and hacks have plagued government and business services, systems and sites alike which have exposed the lackadaisical and complacent nature of their online security. The Optus and Medicare data breaches are a painful and realistic reminder about how behind these sectors have been regarding online security. There are some positives, such as organisations being limited with the amount of personal information they have access to. Another plus is business, and establishments won’t be able to keep customers personal info, however how safe is a system that requires so much personal information in the first place? Can we trust the government with our sensitive info? and Can it be guaranteed to be kept safe on an online system? Can anything online truly be guaranteed to be safe?
