I found this conversation to be extremely interesting and thought provoking! Jeffrey touches on his history with black mold and subsequent impact on his chronic health diagnosis. In my opinion, one of the most important topics we talked about was finding community and developing coping tools for dealing with disability and/or chronic illness. Solidarity in the community is a consistent theme that I feel is the foundation.

Today’s episode of The TyePod features Steve and Vicki, an interdisabled couple who have each navigated life with their own disabilities and chronic health conditions.

Many of us with more significant disabilities often think that an interabled relationship is the most realistic path. Steve and Vicki’s story offers a different perspective, demonstrating that relationships between two people with disabilities can be successful!

During our conversation, they share stories from their relationship journey, including Twitch conversations, a memorable “tube-ular” discussion, and the ways they maintain a strong connection despite the distance between Chicago and Pittsburgh. One of the strategies that stood out to me was their commitment to always planning the next visit before saying goodbye.
