Jessica is a photographer, travel nurse, army wife, and a full-time dog mom. She was first diagnosed with melanoma at the end of 2020 after a shave biopsy on her leg. Last year,  both Jenn and Jessica made the decision to have genetic testing done.

Dee is a wife, mom, advocate, and yes, another friend of mine. The Low Ultraviolet community has become a bit of a family and last April, I met Dee in person the same day I met last month’s guest Katie. Dee has her own journey with skin cancer but also, in 2018, her sister Rose passed away from melanoma and she almost lost her husband to Valley Fever. These two events led her to educate people on skin cancer and valley fever and advocate for prevention, awareness, and funding.

TANNING/TANNING BED FACTS:

• In 1890, the Danish physician Niels Ryberg Finsen developed a prototype that produced ultraviolet radiation for use in treating skin conditions. He won the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work. He used red light therapy to treat Lupus patients. 
• A  story states that French designer Coco Chanel popularized the trend of tanning after accidentally tanning in the French Riviera in 1923. 
•  In 1970, Friedrich Wolff, a German physiologist and embryologist, invented the first tanning device.
