  • Episode 226: Burying the Ex (2014) chat with Michael and Darren

Anton Yelchin (we love him) and Oliver Cooper (we love him)  as half-brothers from the same sack star in this Joe Dante (Gremlins/The Howling) rom zom com and we loved it. It joins Shaun of the Dead and Warm Bodies as an entry level zombie movie you could watch on a date, with grandma or the kids. Here is the chat! With special guest intro from the man we love, Bruce in As as know it and Travis in this... the wonderful Oliver Cooper

I'd love to hear from my dear listeners. Recommend a zombie movie or show I haven't covered, or some on and chat all things zeke. Or just like and share.

  • Episode 224: Burying the Ex

A change of plan. We had that list of zombie movies on TUBI. Michael was given the reigns and I asked him which one to watch next. He said Transit 17, a French/Belgian/dutch effort. I agreed then saw the trailer and reviews and now he has had his choosing privileges revoked again.

That being said TUBI has redeemed itself by offering up this, a rom zom com, and there aren’t many of this… Burying the Ex

    2014

Directed by Joe Danto who gave Gremlins and Small Soldiers, both good films, and it stars the late and great Alton Yelchin, Green Room, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, a lot of good things. A true loss to Hollywood that one.

    It stars Anton as MAX

Ashley Green from the Twiglight movies as Evelyn, the zombie ex

Alexandra Deddario from a really good list of movies, San Andreas, Texas chainsaw 3D, we summon the darkness, percy Jackson…as new gf olivia

And Oliver Cooper who we loved in As We Know it as Travis, not that he is being typecast as he nerdy best friend in zombie comedies at all

     The plot

Max, a young man, starts dating Evelyn, but she soon dies in an accident. Things take a dark turn when she comes back as a zombie and find out that Max has moved on with Olivia.

Is it Warm Bodies? No. But it still one of those sought after entry level zombie movies that you could watch with the new significant other, the wife/gf/partner/kids/homeless man you met at the bus station called Malcolm

It feels a little more As We Know It, with movie references and movies watched including I Walked with a Zombie dotted throughout.

Speaking of which Oliver Cooper is funny as ever. And despite Evelyn being so obnoxious you wanted her dead before she actually is killed, the cast and the plot is ok.

5/10 which is good for us

  • Episode 223: The Andy Beglin Z-Chat Hour

More than a pleasure to chat all things zombie with zombie online horror community member and all around good guy Andy Beglin (beastonthehorrorexpress79 on insta). We talk Dellamorte Dellamore, and his top 10, notable mentions and the dreaded remakes. He has yet to see Pro Wrestlers vs Zombies (how dare you!) but we forgive him enough to invite him back for a movie review episode in the future. Enjoy!

  • Episode 222: World Ends at Camp Z

    WORLD END AT CAMP Z

A campground owner learns of a prospective buyer's evil intentions concerning the land. A zombie uprising might help him stop the sale.

    3.3/10 in IMDB urgh

No overall score in RT as it doesn’t have 50 people who could be bothered to watch it

    1/10

    The Mess at Worlds End

Whoever rated thus dog over 3 is either high or part of the film crew. It's a wandering mess without clear purpose or point. The premise was suppose to be about survivors enduring some zombie apocalypse. What we got fell far short. Horrendously awful acting, I mean some actors seemed to either forget lines or adlib them. The plot and story was none existent. The film is supposed to be about zombies, yet we somehow get some tripe about environmentalist trying to prevent some company strip mining the Camp for precious metals?! Worse still is the first zombies dont show up until 60% of the movie is shown. And then some of the worse makeup sgx ever. Yikes this thing is painful to watch. I couldnt finish it. I spent 3.99 for this dog, moneyand time I cant get back. Do yourself a favor and stay away

    Thanks michael

And it stars Age of the Living Dead's Anne-Carolyne Binette as Vanessa, and a bunch of Canadians as Clay, Julian, Max and Aaron

What an awful piece of shit this movie was

Don’t get me wrong, it is certainly no Anger of the Dead

But the characters were inconsistent  vanessa was a badass or pathetic, loving aaron or loving julian, the douches were all douches…

It felt like a bad cheap Festival of the Dead so it is going to be less than that for sure

    The zombie storyline was minimal

    The effects were poor

    The acting was bad

    The music choices were atrocious

But I am glad I got it done… as I will never need to see that bag of shit again

    Canada you should be ashamed

It is a 3/10 at best

  • Episode 221: Gangs of the Dead aka 48 Weeks Later

The film was first released under its original title of Last Rites at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 30, 2006. It was later released direct to video on May 1, 2007 under the new title of Gangs of the Dead. In both Germany and Italy, the film was released under the title of City of the Dead. In the United Kingdom, the film was released under the title of 48 Weeks Later, in an effort to capitalise on the success of 28 Weeks Later, which had been released in 2007.

The film takes place in the city of Los Angeles, California, and follows two intertwined plots.

The main plot concerns a meteorite that crashes in Los Angeles. It carries alien spores that spread across the city, transforming humans into flesh-eating zombies.

The other story is about two rival gangs, "The Lords of Crenshaw" and "El Diablo", who continue to fight for dominance of Los Angeles even as it falls to the zombie hordes.

3.4/10 on IMDB and 19% on rotten tomatoes

    1 star review

Nothing special. Nothing to do with 28 days/weeks later.

First of all, I am an avid horror film fanatic, I have around 400-500 horror films, I have seen well over a thousand. I am very fond of the zombie films... Unfortunately, 48 weeks later, at absolute best, is a mediocre film, that's being extremely generous..

Nothing unique or original. Meteorite hits homeless people, they turn into zombies. Some people are trapped inside a warehouse thing, lots of arguments, they disagree about what should be done. Most of them die. Bla bla bla.

Poor acting, poor storyline, absolutely nothing about this film is exciting, it's boring at best. Also, terrible sound and picture quality, rubbish effects. I don't mind poor effects, or poor picture quality, as long as the film is entertaining, as this was not, it just added to the misery of sitting through this.

There are some good zombie films out there, this is not one of them. I wouldn't waste your time. I would not recommend to anyone.

OK so back to shit biscuits being dunked in my tea

    Thoughts?

Alarmingly this isn’t the first Hispanic gangster zombie movie I have seen with the Cholo Zombie movies, and it isn’t the first LA movie with the Live Escape/Survival movies… but I think it was done as well as it could be with the amateur cast. I think the gang members were good. They tried to make the gangs sound, act, dress differently and drive different cars. It could have been good, but it wasn't as bad as they make it out to be.

The Asian informant and GF was the weakest link here. And the weatherman and his end made no real sense. I think he needed to be seen to be going progressively man. I also think if they had stayed in the dumpster with the bitten brother it would have made for a better more tense story. Imagine 3 of you in a dumpster and one has been bitten.

If you class it as Gangs of the Dead it is a 4/10

If you class it as part of the 28 Weeks/Months/Years series it is a 1/10

  • Episode 220: Death Shack

I know I know I promised Michael I would watch World Ends at Camp Z, but I really don’t want to, so I am sneaking in DEATH SHACK. DEATH SHACK BABY DEATH SHACK DEATH SHACK BABY THAT’S WHERE ITS AT.

    2017 from SHUDDER

Gets a respectable 5.5/10 on IMDB

    And 82% on ROTTEN TOMATOES

Yup. How do you like them apples?

Three teens and a drunken father on a cabin getaway discover their mysterious neighbor is harboring a house full of zombies.

While staying at a run-down cabin in the woods, three children must save their parents from the neighbour who intends to feed them to her undead family.

The gore is ok. The story is ok but basic. The cinematography is great. However, the characters, every man jack of them, is an asshole. All of them. This is a group of the most unlikable Canadians you can imagine. Roger is such a drunk asshole, noisy, useless, drunk. Lisa the same. Summer is a horrible sarcastic girl. Colin is a bully and a dick. And Jason is pathetic. Really, horrible people. If this family rolled up to the hotel you are staying it, you would move hotels. Utter scumbags.

That aside, there is about 5 minutes or proper zombie movie deaths and killing at the end, including a very surprising death, so kudos for that, and that it is only 73 minutes long.

Definitely not 82% def not 5.5/10. I will give it 5/10 as people may, and do like it, I just found all the characters sounding the same, and all of them as careless, loud, sarcastic, brash, brutish dicks, being a turn off.

  • Episode 219: Micheal and Darren Infected Recap

We do this from time to time, we see a movie that we need to discuss. Despite it being a B-movie set in Brighton, with annoying students, bad CGI helicopters and arguably the worst sound mix of any movie, there is enough there to like. Infected (2021) or Darkest Day (2015). It was no Pro Wrestlers v Zombies. How dare you!

  • Episode 218: Infected (2021) or Darkest Days (2015)

Looked very 28 Days later in the trailer

In a country ravaged by a deadly virus that has triggered a zombie apocalypse, the military is on the hunt for the man rumoured to have the cure

Well, I am getting a bit of déjà vu here - much like the movie Zombies!f from 2016  Which was repackaged as Zombie Christmas Apocalypse in 2024 this is actually the 2015 movie Darkest Day

And, more déjà vu, on IMDB

3/10 Its your average low budget zombie conspiracy. Acting, filming and direction are all ok but the writing needs help.

1/10 From the outset, terrible focusing of the camera was annoying. Constant blurring of images was (at best) bad cinematography.

2/10 The cover is what actually got my attention to watch this movie. Right at the start I already knew it was a B movie when the camera panning and blurry unfocused technique was used which was very amatuer. As I continued watching I noticed there's not much dialogue and conversations are simple few word sentences.

After watching that piece of crap Dead Genesis, this looks to suffer from the same issues in quality.

The sound mix is so bad, the sound guy deserves shooting. Loud music. Loud FX. Almost inaudible dialog. What there is of it. CGI helicopters were shit. The whole students living in this house and not having stockpiled supplies and instead drinking and eating crisps and playing loud music months into the apocalypse made no sense.

The acting was sub par. But again better than DEAD GENESIS. And the plot was much much better so I think this was, for the UK zombie movie fan, almost recommendable but not quite. A 28 Days and Weeks later rip off, with a few decent elements. The zombies running and makeup was good. The rest was ok.

    4.5/10

  • Episode 217: Dead Genesis (2010)

    3.4/10 in IMDB

    20% on rotten tomatoes

    What did people say?

A sadistic, immoral film that is utterly contemptible and repulsive. To say this is sick cinema without any redeeming elements at all is an understatement. The beginning sequence is one of the most morally offensive ever filmed. The consumption of a living child by a zombie, dining on the innocent's stomach while the child blinks his eyes uncomprehendingly, is the definition of torture porn and possibly the sickest sort of child pornography. The exploitation of a child and depiction of the worst child murder imaginable is beyond anything ever portrayed in a so-called legitimate film. Of all the disgusting, repulsive, and sick movies made, this one is about as depraved as possible.

    1/10.

    Not a good start.

    Terrible 1/10

    Wait, there wasn't an earthquake?

this is the shakiest film ever made, and to be avoided by anyone who doesn't want to be motion sick in the first 20 min (several times)

If the shaking doesn't get you, the terrible acting and effects may actually come close to destroying any love for the entire genre. I've heard that the UN is declaring this movie to be a crime against humanity.

    1/10

Ok, what is the best review?

    Total Romero

This is one hell of a zombie movie. It's been along time since any zombie flick that I've seen has managed to capture the spirit of those classic Romero movies. It's got the social commentary angle going for it and that traditional zombie spirit as well. Dead Genesis also manages to have one of the most graphic and gory openings to a zombie film that I've ever seen. Many have the grand epic openings, this is much more personal and disturbing.

    10/10

    You sir are a jackass!

Ok, lets get this bass of horses dicks done

A bunch of randoms walking around the woods aimlessly killing zombies that creep up on them is joined by a monotone, clueless reporter (sorry! I am not a reporter), I mean documentary film maker, walk aimlessly around the woods shooting zombies that creep on them. There is no mission. No grand design. No purpose. Just aimlessly walking around the woods, then stopping to talk and be filmed by the reporter (I am not a reporter!), and have zombie creep up on them. No guards. No lookouts. No radios. No map. No direction. Awful cinematography, and a group of individuals where only one of them seems ok. And only 2 can act.

    Hated it.

    2/10
