Can Queerness & Sikhi co-exist? 

I sat down with Sardar Singh to discuss his work with the Queer Sikh Network, his experiences with colourism as a South Asian and Punjabi man, how he built his self-esteem through Sikhi while staying true and authentic to himself and the importance of decolonizing our minds in order to better understand ourselves and intersectional identities.

With experience in public health research and an upcoming publication on sexual health surveillance, Sardar’s advocacy addresses the social determinants of health for queer South Asians. He believes in the importance of investing in under-resourced areas like Peel Region to drive meaningful change.

I am sooo sorry for being so absent, but I had a good reason, I swear!!

For the past three years, I was silently struggling with a personal matter and I kept it super private; some of my family and friends didn't know about it. 

The thing is I have so much love around me and when I am vulnerable, my village worries extremely; even when I was going through it, I found myself people pleasing and thinking of others because honestly I feed off of people's energy and I needed to be selfish and maintain this privacy for everyone's sake. 

Anyways, it's short update and I'm so excited to pour back into my cup and all my ventures!!

So it's been a minute, but I have a good reason. 

I was dealing with some personal issues and honestly didn't have the capacity to pursue this passion project, but now your girl is free and she just wants to interview her friends. 

I am my biggest critic; am I the happiest with my first episode 2024, to be honest I could have done better. I was so nervous; was struggling to speak English (it’s not my first language), my hair part should have been the middle, the flow of the convo could have been better and don’t even ask me how many times I said “um”. 

Nonetheless, this is just the start and I know I’ll improve with time.
