After sharing two of the most difficult chapters of my life, I’m turning the page to a much happier one.
In this episode of The Unspoken Motherhood, I’m sharing how I met my husband, Jerry, how we welcomed our son Caleb, and how life began to unfold in ways I never could have imagined.
From our unforgettable first date and finding a deeper connection with God to a whirlwind pregnancy, a memorable natural childbirth, and our intimate backyard wedding, this episode is filled with love, laughter, and a few moments that still make me laugh today.
But motherhood isn’t always easy. I also open up about the challenges of breastfeeding, balancing motherhood with my career, and one of the scariest experiences we faced as parents when Caleb was hospitalized with RSV.
Through it all, I’ve learned that life after loss can hold both beautiful beginnings and unexpected challenges.
In my next episode, I’ll share another chapter of my mental health journey as I revisit the challenges I faced during COVID in 2020.
Thank you for listening and being part of this journey. If my story resonates with you, please consider sharing The Unspoken Motherhood with someone who might benefit from hearing it. ❤️
This episode includes discussion of pregnancy loss, postpartum mental health, and a child’s hospitalization.
What happens when you lose your baby… and then begin to lose your sense of reality?
In December 2007, I experienced the unimaginable heartbreak of losing my daughter, Giana, at 37 weeks pregnant. But what happened in the weeks that followed was something I never could have anticipated.
In this deeply personal episode of The Unspoken Motherhood, I share my experience with postpartum psychosis—a frightening mental health condition that completely changed my perception of reality.
From the earliest warning signs and sleepless nights to psychiatric hospitalization, a bipolar disorder diagnosis, and the difficult road to recovery, I’m opening up about an experience I’ve rarely discussed in nearly 19 years.
What frightened me most looking back? I didn’t realize anything was wrong with me.
Inspired in part by conversations surrounding the Lindsay Clancy case, I hope sharing my experience helps bring awareness, understanding, and compassion to postpartum mental illness, including the reality that it can happen after pregnancy loss.
Because motherhood doesn’t always look the way we imagined, and some of the most important stories are the ones left unspoken.
❤️ If this episode resonates with you, please consider sharing it with someone who might need to hear it.
Content Advisory: This episode discusses stillbirth, postpartum psychosis, psychiatric hospitalization, and suicidal thoughts.
Disclaimer: This episode reflects my personal experience and is not intended as medical advice. Postpartum psychosis is a psychiatric emergency that requires immediate professional medical attention. Medication decisions should always be made with a qualified healthcare professional.
Psalm 30:5 (NIV)
“Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.”
At 37 weeks pregnant, just days before Christmas in 2007, I walked into what I thought would be a routine prenatal appointment. I was preparing to welcome my first child, a beautiful baby girl named Giana.
Instead, my world changed forever.
In this deeply personal episode of The Unspoken Motherhood, I share the story of my pregnancy, the devastating moment I learned my daughter no longer had a heartbeat, and what it was like to deliver, hold, and ultimately say goodbye to her.
I also reflect on the unanswered questions I’ve carried for nearly 19 years, the grief of returning home without my baby, and how this experience changed my life in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
This is more than a story of pregnancy loss. It’s a story about a mother’s love, the dreams we carry for our children, and the grief that doesn’t simply disappear with time.
For every mother who has experienced a loss, I hope this episode reminds you that your baby matters, your story matters, and you are not alone.
In the next episode, I’ll share what happened in the weeks following Giana’s death, including my unexpected experience with postpartum psychosis and psychiatric hospitalization.
Thank you for being here. ❤️

Real Stories. Difficult Conversations. Breaking the Silence.
Motherhood isn’t always the beautiful story we’re told to expect. Behind the picture-perfect moments are stories of grief, guilt, trauma, mental health struggles, and experiences that often go unspoken.
Welcome to The Unspoken Motherhood, a podcast where we break the silence surrounding the complicated, heartbreaking, and sometimes controversial realities of motherhood.
I’m Grace, a wife, a mother, and a woman with a story of my own.
Through personal storytelling, candid discussions, and conversations with other women, we’ll explore pregnancy and infant loss, postpartum depression, postpartum psychosis, maternal mental health, grief, trauma, healing, and the expectations society places on mothers.
We’ll also examine real-life cases, true crime, and controversial stories involving motherhood, mental illness, and the criminal justice system, asking difficult questions and exploring perspectives that are often overlooked.
This isn’t about having all the answers or passing judgment. It’s about creating space for compassion, accountability, awareness, and honest conversations.
Because motherhood isn’t one story. And some of the most important stories are the ones left unspoken.
