This just might be one of my favorite episodes of the season so far. In the headlines on #TheUpdate this Friday, the potent rush-hour rainstorm has swamped the New York metropolitan area. The deluge shut down swaths of the subway system, flooded some streets and highways, and delayed flights into LaGuardia Airport. U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, a centrist Democrat and champion of liberal causes who was elected to the Senate in 1992 and broke gender barriers throughout her long career in local and national politics, has died. She was 90. A driver who took an 18-wheel tractor-trailer inside a tunnel between Manhattan and Brooklyn despite height restriction warnings got wedged in. And a Phillies fan and his emotional support alligator were denied entrance to watch Philadelphia host Pittsburgh. 🐊⚾

It might be hard, but we have to say goodbye to summer. But don't worry, it'll be here again sooner than you might think. In the headlines on #TheUpdate this Friday, a charter bus carrying high school students to a band camp careened off a New York highway and tumbled down an embankment, killing two adults and seriously injuring several others. The United States had 3.5 million residents who identify as Middle Eastern or North African. That's according to the 2020 census’ most detailed figures on race and ethnicity released by the U.S. Census Bureau. And an Ohio father who learned that his 11-year-old daughter had been manipulated into sending explicit photos to an adult turned to the police for help. But instead of treating the girl as a crime victim, an officer seemingly threatened to charge her under a law most people view as designed to protect child victims. 👨‍👧🚔

When will the rain go away? We're expecting to get another few inches of rain tomorrow before we get a last taste of summer. Mother Nature's just weird. In the headlines on #TheUpdate this Thursday, prosecutors say DNA from Gilgo Beach serial killing suspect Rex Heuermann’s cheek swab matches the DNA that authorities had previously collected from a pizza crust and used to link Heuermann to one of the victims. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey will address his Democratic colleagues on Thursday as calls grow for Menendez to resign over federal bribery charges. And the Powerball jackpot climbed to an estimated $925 million after no one beat the immense odds and won the giant prize. 💵🎟️

In the headlines on Wednesday's edition of #TheUpdate, prosecutors have charged a New York City man with performing acupuncture without a license after they say he punctured a woman’s lungs during treatment, sending her to a hospital for emergency surgery. A New York City day care operator and a man who rented a room from her are facing federal charges after the death of a 1-year-old exposed to fentanyl inside the day care. And police body camera video shows an Alabama high school band director being shocked with a stun gun and arrested by officers in front of screaming students, in a chaotic scuffle that broke out after he refused to immediately stop the band as it played in the bleachers following a football game. 🚔🥁

The sun's finally out for the first time in what feels like a week- that's good, right? In the headlines on #TheUpdate this Wednesday, a judge has ruled that Donald Trump committed fraud for years while building the real estate empire that catapulted him to fame and the White House. A suspended NYPD officer who had been accused of spying for China — and later cleared — is fighting to be reinstated. And start spreading the news- the strike by Hollywood screenwriters is over. Leaders of the writers union declared their nearly five-month-old strike over Tuesday after board members approved a contract agreement with studios. 📺
