The Upon Further Review

Alien: Earth on FX is a demonstration on how to correctly expand the lore of a franchise. With a cast of all new characters, we embark on the return of the Maginot and trouble is afoot. The species are the mission and they just happened upon a xenomorph. Of course, people are going to meet their maker.

Eyes of Wakanda chronicles the story of the War Dogs, as they have been the ones to retrieve vibranium that has slipped into the hands of “outsiders” over the millennia. We have four uniquely different stories that act as a through line, until they all end up converging “What If” style. Which episode was your favorite of the series.

It’s been 10 years since the debacle that was fan4stic and we thought Micheal B. Jordan would never be in a comic book movie again. Fantastic Four: First Steps is a celebration of Marvel’s first family in a way that honors the legend of Jack Kirby and illustrates the determination of Kevin Feige. Matt Shakman (friend of the pod) directs this visually stunning homage to the space race 60’s, world of tomorrow-esque look into this alternate universe’s idealism, that’s anchored by Sue Storm and the rest of the Fantastic Four. With everything this movie does right, there is one thing we get into that was surprisingly left out. In the comments, give us your rating for Fantastic Four: First Steps!

Clipse: Let God Sort ‘Em Out, album rollout and subsequent release has been nothing short of perfect! The album definitely harkens back to a much simpler time in our lives and evokes feelings of unrequited hip hop nostalgia. No Malice hasn’t missed a beat, Pusha T is still mad at people he doesn’t like, and Pharrell has his best production outing in a minute!

This is the beginning of the DCU’s foray into a shared universe and Superman is first at bat. We’ll be discussinour initial impressions of the movie and we will be spoiling the entirety of James Gunn’s love letter to the immigrant alien in tights and a cape!  The Justice Gang, Mr Terrific, and all the other characters in this film really are masterfully handled and will give way to the next projects, without being super heavy handed about it. How did you rate Superman?

In what is most likely the series finale of Ironheart, we get several tie-ins to the greater MCU with the mystic arts, Kamar-Taj, and Dr. Strange being mentioned. We have some more magic users in the series, The Hood’s hood is from a different place and time, and we actually get the most evil entity ever in the MCU, chopping it up over some pizza.

After the success of Top Gun: Maverick, the creative team swapped actors and modes of transportation to make basically the same movie. And we can’t lie, the formula works! F1: The Movie is the epitome of a summertime movie: beautiful people, action, a grizzled vet, a young brash upstart, and a little bit of sabotage. Brad Pitt and Damson Idris have to work together in a tale as old as time: will the cocky rookie listen and respect the experienced vet. This 2:25 hour movie works as a cinematic advertisement for F1, as they are trying to bring this global phenomenon to more eyes in the States. If you are a fan of F1, did you enjoy the movie and if you have no understanding of racing, did the movie compel you to know more about it?

Fresh outta Wakanda, Riri Williams aka Ironheart, is back home in Chicago and she is full of ambition, but a very light on cash. She seemingly has to navigate feelings of failure, grief, her socioeconomic status, and her sense of morality as she strives to be most influential person on Earth. Is her willingness to make a difference being blinded by the lengths she willing to take to see her dreams be made manifest?

This unexpected banger of an anthology turned interconnected story is one of the best animated movies we’ve seen in a while. Ranging over 3 millennia, we see Predators being having a fun time killing people on Earth, trying to find a good fight. From Vikings, martial artists, and WW2 pilots, this movie proves how you can tell a story that increases a franchise’s lore, without needless dialogue.
