The Urban Forge Media Podcast

In the second installment of our four-part exploration of Tip Your Hat to the Hatmaker, author S. R. Andrew takes listeners into the social world of immigrant Brooklyn during the early twentieth century.

From the cultural differences among immigrant communities to the divisions between wealth and working-class craftsmanship, this episode explores the relationships, expectations, and everyday struggles that helped shape the novel.

The discussion also examines the generation gap between immigrant parents and their American-born children, and how changing ideas of success, opportunity, and tradition could bring families together or drive them apart.

Discover how the neighborhood hat shop became a window into a changing America, where people from every walk of life crossed paths.
