In times of conflict and uncertainty, information spreads quickly and emotions often follow just as fast. In this episode of The Vault Expert, Patti explores the psychology of propaganda and why it has been used throughout history to shape public perception.
From ancient empires to modern media, propaganda has always been part of human communication. It is not always about lies. More often it is about framing information in ways that influence how people interpret events.
With global tensions high in March 2026 and the world watching the escalating conflict with Iran, narratives are forming across governments, media outlets, and social platforms. Each message emphasizes certain facts, language, and imagery designed to shape how people see the situation.
This episode breaks down how propaganda works, why humans are naturally susceptible to it, and how to remain thoughtful in a fast-moving information environment.
You will hear discussion about:
• The historical roots of propaganda from ancient Rome to modern wars
• How governments have used messaging to rally populations and shape public opinion
• Why emotional triggers like fear and anger make narratives spread faster
• The role repetition and framing play in influencing perception
• How modern technology and social media accelerate information warfare
• Simple ways to slow down and think critically before reacting to headlines
Rather than becoming cynical about every message, the goal is awareness. Understanding how narratives are built allows listeners to step back, ask better questions, and avoid reacting to the loudest voices in the room.
In a world full of competing narratives, clear thinking and thoughtful conversation are more important than ever.
In a world built on distraction, most people are not overwhelmed by responsibility. They are overwhelmed by exposure.
In this episode of The Vault Expert, we break down how constant input from news cycles, social media, and cultural outrage is quietly draining your clarity, energy, and decision-making ability.
More importantly, we talk about how to take it back.
You will learn:
• What “static” really is and why it feels urgent
• How the attention economy profits from emotional reactions
• Why constant exposure creates stress even when nothing in your real life is on fire
• The difference between being informed and being inflamed
• How your algorithm is trained by your behavior
• Practical ways to reset what shows up in your digital world
• How to change your mental input so your life shifts with it
Every click, pause, like, and comment teaches platforms what to show you more of. The same is true for your mind. What you repeatedly focus on becomes your normal.
If you want less chaos in your life, you have to stop feeding chaos with attention.
This episode is a practical reset for anyone feeling overstimulated, reactive, or distracted. It’s not about disconnecting from reality. It’s about reclaiming authority over your focus.
Because where your attention goes, your life follows.

Guest: Aaron Barnes — Founder & CEO, Compact Care | U.S. Veteran | Entrepreneur
From the Field to the Founder’s Chair
For Aaron Barnes, the idea for Compact Care didn’t start in a conference room — it started in the field.
During his military service, Aaron saw how something as simple as staying clean could shift morale, focus, and confidence in an instant. In austere environments where comfort is rare and water is limited, hygiene becomes more than a convenience, it becomes a lifeline.
That experience stuck with him long after he left the service. What began as a practical need evolved into a personal mission: to create solutions that make cleanliness and comfort possible anywhere.
The Birth of Compact Care
Compact Care is built on that foundation offering portable hygiene products designed for people on the move and in demanding conditions. From compressed towels and mobile hand soap sheets to rinse-free bath sponges, every Compact Care product reflects the same values that guided Aaron in uniform: practicality, resilience, and care for others.
The company’s focus goes beyond convenience. Compact Care aims to play a role in preparedness and relief, developing accessible hygiene tools that can support individuals, families, and organizations in uncertain or resource-limited environments.
While still a new company, its mission is rooted in the lessons Aaron learned through service — that even small comforts can make a big impact when conditions are tough.

In this episode of The Vault Expert, host Patti Katter sits down with Pastor Rhodes, her former youth pastor, for a meaningful conversation about leadership, service, and what it really means to invest in people.
Pastor Rhodes shares his journey from growing up in Melbourne, Florida, to serving in the U.S. Navy (1973–1981), and eventually dedicating decades to ministry, including years as a youth pastor in Bridgeport, Michigan, and later as senior pastor at First Baptist Church of South Brevard until 2023.

This episode is full of practical wisdom for anyone navigating leadership, family life, ministry, or the military-to-civilian transition, and it’s a reminder that the greatest legacy is the lives you shape.
In this episode of The Vault Expert, host Patti Katter sits down with Terryl Quinn, a firefighter with over 20 years of frontline experience, to talk about leadership when lives are on the line.
Terryl shares the defining moments that shaped his career, from a life-altering tragedy in his early twenties to rising through the ranks of one of the busiest firehouses in his city. He explains why true leadership is revealed not by authority, but by how a team performs when the leader is not present.
The conversation dives into discipline, trust, fear, failure, and responsibility, along with what it physically and mentally takes to do the job of a firefighter. Terryl also opens up about why he stepped away from the fire service, why he came back, and what ultimately drove him to write his book, The Calling.
This episode is for firefighters, public servants, leaders in any field, and anyone who believes leadership is about example, accountability, and getting back up after failure.

J. Lawrence Cunningham retired from the United States Secret Service after a diverse and accomplished career. Mr. Cunningham's 20-year career (1974 – 1994) encompassed supervisory experience in all aspects of Secret Service jurisdiction. As the Agent in Charge of the USSS Office located in San Jose, California, he coordinated and supervised the security arrangements for visiting dignitaries to include Pope John Paul II, Mikhail Gorbachev, Presidents of the United States, Presidential Candidates and other foreign Heads-of-State. His oversight of law enforcement personnel, motorcade routes, sites, and communications included the development and evaluation of crisis management and emergency contingency plans. Liaison duties included a seven-year membership on the Santa Clara County’s Law Enforcement Executive Council.
Other responsibilities included the development and prosecution of numerous domestic and international criminal cases involving complex telemarketing, credit card fraud, computer-hacking and high-tech fraud operations. His office developed precedent setting cases resulting in updated Federal Criminal Statutes. In these efforts, he streamlined the prosecution guidelines and procedures with the local District Attorney and the U. S. Attorney’s Offices.
Mr. Cunningham served on the Presidential Protective Division at the White House for five years and conducted international security advances for Presidential visits to Canada, China, France, Grenada and Germany, where his fluency in German was utilized. His other duties encompassed protective detail training and the supervision of the security agents assigned to conduct security advances.
During his assignment to the Secret Service Office of Training, Mr. Cunningham played a key role in the development of programs resulting in the implementation of new policies for the Secret Service. These efforts involved establishing new agent and in-service agent training curricula and the revision of the agent applicant hiring criteria.
Noteworthy among these included the development of specialized training programs for agents assigned to the White House Presidential Detail. In addition, following the assassination attempt of President Ronald Reagan, Mr. Cunningham consulted with Dr. Kenneth Cooper of the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research in Dallas, Texas and developed the Secret Service mandatory fitness program. A major component of this included the implementation of a stress management curriculum for in-service training.
This innovative fitness program was established as policy and has subsequently been adopted by numerous federal law enforcement agencies to include the U.S. Army, U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Customs Service, U.S. Marshal Service and a number of police departments. He is affiliated with the Stanford Center for Research in Disease Prevention and has contributed to the development of a multi-factor risk reduction program for public safety officers.
In 1994, he developed the dignitary security plan for the Stanford World Cup Soccer Venue on behalf of Stanford University. His duties encompassed the coordination of emergency training exercises interfacing Bay Area law enforcement entities with Department of Defense officials. He administered post orders, managed and evaluated over 350 security personnel for this event.
