Most likely, you’ve witnessed a baptism, and maybe you’ve been baptized yourself. You hear the pastor explain the sacrament of baptism, seen the application of water on the head and the heart, and prayed over the person. But why is baptism important? Is baptism necessary to go to Heaven? When should you be baptized? And what happens to those people who weren’t or couldn’t be baptized before death?

To answer these questions, we’ll dig into the account of Pentecost in the book of Acts. It’s here where Peter encourages people to “repent and be baptized”. We’ll explore what the Bible says about baptism and what that means for all our questions about baptism in our lives.

Jesus lived a perfect life and died as our substitute to pay the price of sin. Then, he defeated death when he was resurrected. Because of all this, God doesn’t see our sins any longer.

So why should we keep asking for forgiveness if we know we’re already forgiven? What’s the point of feeling guilty for our sins? To help us understand why we continually go to God with our sins and ask for his forgiveness, we’ll study Jesus’ parable of the unmerciful servant.

Elijah has just experienced God at work in a great victory over the prophets of Baal. But he soon despairs of his own life. As he flees from Jezebel after a great victory, he feels lonely, isolated, and fearful. He wants to die. In this difficult time of depression, God strengthens and refreshes Elijah with the truth.

When you feel depressed, it can seem like nothing will ever get better. You feel alone, isolated, and afraid. But through the support of counselors, friends, and your Savior, you can come out on the other side of depression.

As Christians, witnessing to others isn't like how celebrites get paid millions of dollars to endorse a product for a company. We're recipients of the same grace we're sharing with people. So, when you're struggling to find the motivation and courage to share Jesus with the people around you, remember this: you're not just a Gospel preacher, you're a Gospel client. The good news of forgiveness and freedom that you're sharing is just as much for you as for the people to whom you're witnessing.

As he and his people wander the desert, Moses is tired. The walking is exhausting, but even worse is the constant complaining from his people. They don’t trust that the God who rescued them from the Egyptians and parted the Red Sea for them would provide for them as they journeyed to the Promised Land. And so, when God tells Moses to speak to the rock to provide water to the Israelites, Moses’ trust faltered. His anger bubbled over and, instead, he smacks the rock with his staff. God still provides water, but Moses lost an opportunity to demonstrate trust in God.

Relationships sometimes get messy. God teaches us that while we cannot control what other people do and think, we can control what we do and think. Anger leads us to lose blessings. When we lose our tempers, we often lose a whole lot more.
