  • God & Anxiety
In Luke 10, we hear the famous story of Mary and Martha. When Jesus arrives for dinner, Martha has a list a mile long of things to prepare for a supper with her Savior. Understandably, she gets frustrated with her sister Mary as she “sits around” rather than helping. Jesus gently teaches Martha that taking time with Him is the right thing to do.
Like Martha, moms have a to-do list a mile and a half long, and it seems to never grow shorter no matter how much they do. But even worse are the doubts, fears, apprehension, and memories of mistakes that can lurk in every corner of their minds. But remember who God says you are, remember what He says He will do, remember God has defeated Satan and that God will give you His strength.

  • God & Joy
The book of Philippians is all about finding joy and contentment in whatever circumstance you find yourself. It’s even more powerful when you realize that Paul, the author, brings this message even though he wrote this book from prison. Through his Spirit-inspired words, we learn that we can find joy in all situations, no matter how tough.
On this Confirmation Sunday, we rejoice as young adults in our congregation confirm their beliefs in Jesus and become members at Victory. Faith is easier when you’re feeling good. Things won’t always be easy. but Jesus will be your joy through it all.

  • God & Grief
On the third day after Jesus’ crucifixion, a group of disciples walked together on the road to Emmaus. They were completely lost in the grief of losing their leader, their lives shattered because they had yet to see the promise of the resurrection fulfilled. Even before they realize it, Jesus walks alongside them, opens the Scriptures to them, and they see him in and through God’s Word.
When we find ourselves lost in grief, wandering aimlessly and unsure of where our steps will take up, God comes to us in His Word to guide us back to Him. Even at the deepest stages of grief, God is with us.

  • New Life
On the first Easter, the resurrected Jesus appeared to the women at the tomb and to his disciples, and it changed everything. Despair turned to hope. Grief turned to joy. Because Jesus is alive, we too have new life.
This new life means we can put our old ways behind us. We can “set our minds on things above”, living lives of love inspired by the love God showed us when he forgave all our sins through Jesus. The old is gone. The new has come. Let’s start living our lives as new people in Christ!

  • New Relationship
God commanded separation between Himself and the Israelites. In both the tabernacle and the temple in the Old Testament, the people were separated from the Holy of Holies (where God dwelt) by a curtain. Because of their sin, the people could not approach God.
Because of Jesus, all of that has changed. When Jesus died on the cross that first Good Friday, the temple curtain was torn in two. The dividing wall of sin came down, and we now have a renewed relationship with God. We can now approach God with confidence that he hears and knows us.

  • New Covenant
The prophet Jeremiah preaches a warning to his people about the destruction that was to come for Israel. But he also gives them hope of a new covenant that God promises to  make with His people through which He will forgive their wickedness and remember their sins no more. God promises this covenant through his Son, Jesus.
God knows we can’t achieve the perfection He demands of us. We messed up the old covenant He gave, so God gives us a new one that is solely dependent on Him. When we take part in the Lord’s Supper which Jesus instituted the night before he sacrificed his life for us, God reminds us of the new covenant given to us through Jesus’ sacrifice.
    Scriptures: Jeremiah 31:31-34
    Sermon Text: Luke 22:19-20
