COVID-19 impacted many different areas last year, and tertiary education was no exception. Ari Katz, CEO of Boston City Campus, joins us again and today he is giving us insights into the current status of tertiary institutions and what we can expect for the 2021 university year.

One of the most potent influences on young people is the behaviors and expectations of their parents, who often believe that secondary and tertiary schooling are gateways to formal employment.

Police Minister Gen. Bheki Cele has expressed disdain over the deaths of six police officials in the last ten days (KZN & WC). He has attended the memorial and funeral services of the slain police officers. This past week, Cele has called on fellow police officers to use deadly force, called for harsher punishments for police killings and sent a reminder that police officers will be protected for defending themselves.

Trade unions in South Africa must be extremely worried that workers are either not interested in joining a union or are comfortable in taking employment as they receive it, irrespective of bad working conditions.

Research has shown that workers employed in the South African economy and in the public service have a union density of 23%, meaning that about 77% of workers employed do not belong to a union and thus employers can determine the conditions of employment and wages as they see fit.
