The media also play an important role in building national identity and to foster nation-building and civic solidarity (Bornman, 2013). Elirea Bornman (2013), echoing Jurgen Habermas (2001), perceives national consciousness as a modern form of social solidarity; the product of the development of new forms of communication, especially mass communication.
