South African Breweries (SAB) has launched a partnership with the Gauteng Provincial Government that aims to create awareness and education on the impact of the irresponsible use of alcohol.

This project has displayed 36 outdoor murals painted by renowned local Illustrator and graphic designer, Kgabo Mametja. The murals are located across the Gauteng metros - City of Ekurhuleni, City of Tshwane, West Rand, and the City of Johannesburg.

In its sixth year, the water stewardship conference seeks to explore how investments in South Africa’s water sector can be leveraged to generate sustained economic growth, employment, and well-being. On the 17th November, the conference will focus on “Good governance for green recovery – stewardship in a post-COVID water sector” bringing together representatives from government, industry, civil society and development partners.

The event will unpack what achieving robust governance for sustainable recovery entails while simultaneously unpacking the water investments urgently needed to support a post-COVID 19 green recovery.

Elirea Bornman (2013), echoing Jurgen Habermas (2001), perceives national consciousness as a modern form of social solidarity; the product of the development of new forms of communication, especially mass communication.

eThekwini Municipality launched the R2.2-billion automotive supplier park that will be operational as of 2021. The automotive manufacturer, Toyota, will be one of the first tenants in the special economic zone.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the KZN Department of Economic Development, Ithala Development Finance Corporation (IDFC) and the South African Technicians Association (SATA). The MoU is aimed at fast-tracking the entry of disadvantaged communities into the automotive sector and entire value chain in the province. This investment initiative forms part of the revitalization of the township economy and Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism will be assisting emerging entrepreneurs in the automotive industry. The partnership will develop 1 339 new jobs will be created as a result of the investment.

Cape Town-based Catherine Wijnberg is a successful entrepreneur with experience in starting, growing and operating businesses in five different sectors across three countries. She was born in Ndola, Zambia to an entrepreneurial father.

The fourth of five children she travelled from an early age to UK for boarding school and studied agriculture in Scotland and Australia. Catherine started her working life as an agricultural economist at the Zambia Farmers Union. Her first entrepreneurial venture was a leap of faith into the new forex auction system in Zambia and an import business serving the local farming network.

In June, Ethiopia’s parliament confirmed that the national elections scheduled for August 2020 would be postponed for up to a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The decision was heavily criticized by opposition critics, with many accusing the prime minister of using the pandemic as an excuse to unlawfully extend his mandate.

Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) denounced the decision, labelling it “unconstitutional”, and declared that it would unilaterally hold its own regional elections as scheduled.
