According to the report: “Changing Size and Shape of the Higher Education System in South Africa”, there has been a steady increase of students attending universities during the period of 2005 to 2017. However, there is also a high dropout rate of black and coloured undergraduate students, across all qualifications.
Given the circumstances of the current academic year, there are concerns that the drop-out may climb significantly due to the lack of resources (wi-fi, electricity, digital equipment and others) to continue online learning.
