In a world marked by deep darkness and spiritual hunger, the Advent season speaks with unusual honesty. The prophet Isaiah describes a people stumbling through distress and gloom, grasping for answers anywhere but God. Yet into that darkness comes a light not awakened from within us but shining upon us. An illuminating and intrusive grace that reveals our need and draws us back to the God who saves. Advent begins in the dark, but refuses to leave us there. 

As Isaiah looks ahead to the birth of Jesus, he announces a Savior would bring hope. Light for the blind, freedom for the burdened, peace for the anxious, and forgiveness for the rebel. Remembering God’s Word
Psalm 119:49-80

Have you ever found yourself unable to sleep, replaying the questions you can’t quite silence? Where is God when the world feels so broken? Why does my heart ache the way it does? And is there a word from Him that can steady me when life shakes me to my core? Psalm 119:49–80 gives language to the longings we all feel—the yearning for hope when we are weary, for comfort when we’re hurting, and for clarity when the world around us seems bent on abandoning the ways of God.

In these four stanzas—Zayin, Heth, Teth, and Yodh—we meet an ancient songwriter who was no stranger to affliction, opposition, or confusion. Yet instead of turning inward or outward, he turns upward. He rises at midnight to give thanks. He looks back on affliction and says, astonishingly, “It was good for me.” Beneath every cry is a deeper reality: the Word of God is not merely information; it is oxygen. It comforts, confronts, redirects, and renews. And it anchors him—just as it can anchor us—in a world that seems lost in the dark and tossed in turmoil.

Join Pastor Jim as he explores this section of Psalm 119 and traces four themes that surface again and again: the ache we all feel, the comfort we all need, the hope that can sustain us, and the final word that can save us. These verses remind us that remembering God’s Word is not an academic exercise—it is the way weary pilgrims learn to walk with courage, joy, and unshakeable hope.

Delighting in the Word of God
Psalm 119:1-24

Have you ever hungered for a word that steadies your soul, a word that lights your path when the way grows dark, or a word that stirs hope and awakens joy when your heart feels heavy?

Psalm 119 invites us to such a word—not just to read it and study it, but to delight in it—to savor each phrase, each promise, each truth. And even more than that, to delight in the God who speaks it: the God whose heart is revealed in every verse, the God who longs to draw us close, to reassure us, and to bless us.

Come to God’s Word with your questions, your longings, your doubts, and your fears. Come and let the Word of God do its work in you as it transforms your heart. Come and delight both in the Word of God and in the God of the Word as Pastor Jim unpacks God’s Word to us from Psalm 119:1–24.

Peace To You
Luke 24:36-53

The Village Chapel - 11/02/2025

On the evening of the resurrection, the disciples huddled together unsure what to make of the rumors and eyewitness accounts that Jesus was alive. Then suddenly, He stood among them. The same hands that had been pierced were now in front of them. The same voice that cried out on the cross now spoke peace into their despair. In that moment, the disciples were changed. The crucified one was not only alive—He was bodily present, eating with them, opening the Scriptures, and revealing that His suffering and resurrection were all part of God’s plan of redemption.

Rekindled Hearts
Luke 24:13-35

Two disciples walk the seven miles from Jerusalem to Emmaus, trying to make sense of the unthinkable. Their hope had been nailed to a cross and buried in a tomb. Disappointment hung heavy in the air as the promise of the resurrected Jesus was nowhere to be seen—until a stranger joined them on the road. Step by step, He listened, questioned, and opened the Scriptures until their cold hearts began to glow with the hope of the resurrection.

Defining Moments: The Burial of Jesus Christ
Luke 23:50-56

Each of our lives is shaped by what we might call “defining moments”—those hinge points that change the course of our life in significant ways. We can see some of these moments coming. Others we only recognize when looking back, and we can see the gracious hand of God weaving through our good and bad choices, our challenges, our joys, and our pain—forming us, changing us, preparing us for what comes next.

One such moment came at the burial of Jesus by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus. What looked like the end was actually the beginning. What seemed like defeat would become the seed of resurrection faith. Their defining moment was not found in their strength, but in their surrender—by stepping out into the open, identifying with the crucified Christ, and finding life in His death.

Sometimes, our greatest turning points come when we finally step out of the shadows and into the light of Christ—when we stop worrying about our own glory and begin living for His.

Beauty for Ashes, Diamonds for Dirt
Luke 23:1-25

In the early morning hours of what we now call Good Friday, Jesus was taken by the religious leaders to stand trial before Pontius Pilate. In Luke’s account, Jesus speaks only five words when he responds to Pilate’s question, “Are you the King of the Jews?” and says, “It is as you say.” We come to a crossroads in this account: Courage and cowardice converge; actual authority and power are displayed through silent suffering; and Jesus, being entirely innocent, willingly exchanges his life for the life of a convicted criminal and takes his place on the cross. What looks like a victory for Satan ends up being the masterstroke of God’s Divine plan of rescue and redemption for the human race. Join us as we study Luke 23:1-25, and read about the Great Exchange, our sin for the righteousness of Christ!
