  • Our Catholic Mass Hot Takes and Rating Catholic Bangers

    Send us Fan Mail

What makes the Catholic Mass special beyond the obvious? In this heartfelt conversation, we peel back the layers of our weekly worship experience to discover the moments that truly move us.

From the uncomfortable joy of incense smoke filling the sanctuary to the community-building awkwardness of the sign of peace, we're diving into the elements of Mass that have shaped our faith journeys in unexpected ways. Katie shares how walking up to communion during her struggle with infertility became a profound act of surrender and healing, while Joe reflects on the humbling power of the penitential rite that reminds us the Church is for broken people, not the already perfect.

We explore how small traditions reveal big truths—like the way we stand for the Gospel or gather for post-Mass chatter. These seemingly minor rituals carry profound meaning when we pause to appreciate them. And because no Catholic conversation would be complete without music, we rank our all-time favorite Mass "bangers" (looking at you, "On Eagle's Wings" and "They'll Know We Are Christians By Our Love").

Whether you're a lifelong Catholic who could recite the Nicene Creed in your sleep or someone curious about what happens inside those stained-glass windows every Sunday, this episode offers a fresh perspective on ancient traditions that continue to speak to modern hearts.

Take a break from your micro-retirement (yes, that's just PTO with a fancy new name) and join us for this celebration of sacred moments that make us laugh, cry, and draw closer to something greater than ourselves.

  • Count the Fruit: June Gospel Reflections

    Send us Fan Mail

Introducing a new series - "Count the Fruit". A series where we highlight the "fruit" from each Sunday Gospel reading. This Episode we cover the Gospels for June 2025.

Across every Sunday in June, our Catholic faith celebrated a different solemnity – each one a feast day of the highest rank celebrating a profound mystery of our tradition. Little did we realize how these five Gospels would weave together to tell the remarkable story of how the early Church was formed and what it means for our faith today.

From the Ascension where disciples "returned to Jerusalem with great joy," to Pentecost when Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit into his followers saying "Peace be with you," these readings trace Christ's transition from physical presence to spiritual guide. We explore why the disciples felt joy rather than abandonment when Jesus left, and how that moment launched their mission to spread the Gospel.

The mystery of the Holy Trinity emerges as a communion of persons we're invited to know through prayer rather than a theological puzzle to solve intellectually. As Jesus himself acknowledges, "I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now." This permission to embrace mystery rather than demanding complete understanding liberates us to grow in faith through relationship rather than reason alone.

Our conversation takes a practical turn examining the miracle of loaves and fishes. When disciples honestly admitted their limitations – "five loaves and two fish are all we have" – Jesus didn't dismiss them but instead invited their participation in preparing for a miracle. How often do we resist God's prompting because it seems illogical or insufficient? Openness to faith, we discover, is what unravels the miracle.

Perhaps most profound is Jesus's personal question to Peter that echoes through centuries to each of us: "Who do you say that I am?" Beyond theological definitions or cultural understandings, this intimate question invites us to articulate our personal relationship with Christ – a relationship that likely changes day by day as we navigate life's complexities.

Join us for this deep dive into scripture that reminds us we possess the keys to the kingdom of heaven and the power to overcome all obstacles through Christ. We'll be exploring the Gospels monthly moving forward, helping all of us remember to live with scripture as our guide through every season of faith.

  • Heaven's Group Chat: Walking with Humans on Earth AND Heaven

    Send us Fan Mail

Have you ever felt the unmistakable presence of someone walking beside you during life's most challenging moments? In this heartfelt conversation, we dive into the extraordinary companions who have shaped our spiritual journeys – both the saints in heaven and the ordinary people on earth who've guided us through uncertainty and joy.

We share how our relationship with the saints transformed from distant historical figures to intimate spiritual companions during our season of infertility and medical struggles. Saint Faustina's honest spiritual diary taught us to suffer well, while Saint Thérèse's "little way" showed us how to find God in life's simplest moments. The tangible signs of their intercession – like roses appearing at pivotal moments of discernment – remind us that heaven is actively involved in our earthly journey.

Saint Peter's story of repeated failures and ultimate leadership resonates deeply with those of us who get in our own way spiritually, while Saint Joseph's quiet, behind-the-scenes faithfulness offers a counterbalance for those who crave recognition. Beyond the canonized saints, we explore how ordinary people like Grandma Josie, Mr. Rogers, and C.S. Lewis have profoundly shaped our understanding of faith through their examples of genuine love, emotional intelligence, and intellectual curiosity.

As we prepare for major life transitions – a new home, a baby on the way – we're discovering that slowing down and recognizing God's presence in our current circumstances might be more important than constantly seeking the next spiritual achievement. The "humans of heaven" remind us that holiness comes in countless forms, and that we're never truly alone on this journey of faith.

Ready to discover the saints and spiritual companions waiting to walk alongside you? Join us for this intimate conversation about the cloud of witnesses that surrounds us all.

  • Your Daily Catholic Survival Guide

    Send us Fan Mail

Have you ever found yourself spiritually exhausted while just trying to make it through another day? In this deeply practical episode, we peel back the layers of Catholic spirituality to reveal what daily faith really looks like when you're juggling work, relationships, and yes—even pregnancy and moving stress.

We start with a revolutionary perspective shift: beyond Mass attendance and sacraments (which are vital), what are the simple, tangible practices that help Catholics navigate everyday challenges? Katie introduces Maslow's hierarchy of needs as a spiritual foundation—acknowledging that addressing our physical and mental health creates the necessary space for spiritual growth. This isn't separate from our faith journey; it's an essential component God designed into our human experience.

Joe emphasizes the power of perspective, reminding us that many of the things that overwhelm us aren't as permanent or important as they seem in the moment. We discuss how surrounding yourself with positive people fundamentally changes your outlook, while negative relationships can subtly pull you down. One particularly practical suggestion we explore is maintaining ongoing conversation with God throughout your day—whether through structured morning prayer, adoration streaming on your TV, or even texting prayers to yourself under God's contact name!

The conversation turns deeply personal as we share our own struggles with maintaining faith amid life's distractions. Katie reflects on her pregnancy journey and the physical realities that have made spiritual practices more challenging, while Joe opens up about how daily examination of conscience has transformed his self-awareness. We wrap up with an unexpected revelation: creating a "joy inventory" can counter our natural tendency to focus on negative experiences.

What makes this episode truly special is our willingness to admit that Catholic living isn't about perfection—it's about progress. We are broken people capable of extraordinary love only through God's grace. Ready to transform your daily spiritual practice? Join us for this conversation that will leave you with practical tools and renewed hope.

  • Sow It Begins: Sowing The Good Soil and Where to Start

    Send us Fan Mail

We've all been there—that moment when life's big transitions make us question where we're rooted. Whether it's starting a family, moving to a new city, or facing unexpected challenges, these moments often spark a desire to reconnect with faith and find deeper community.

In this episode, we dive into what it means to restart or rekindle your faith journey using the Parable of the Sower as our guide. The seed that falls on the path, rocky ground, among thorns, or in good soil perfectly illustrates the different ways we respond to spiritual truths throughout our lives. We candidly share our own struggles with staying rooted during busy seasons and the subtle ways worldly concerns—from financial worries to social comparison—can choke out our spiritual growth without us even noticing.

What does it really mean to take root in good soil? We explore the two essential ingredients: genuine desire and trust in the process. Faith isn't a magic trick or instant solution—it's a relationship that requires cultivation, patience, and community. Throughout history, Christianity has survived precisely because it offers something real and sustaining to those who seek it.

Whether you're taking your first step toward faith or trying to find your way back after drifting, this conversation offers practical insights on overcoming common obstacles and creating the conditions for authentic spiritual growth. The journey isn't always straight, but with the right community and commitment, it leads to a life of deeper meaning and purpose.

Ready to get started (again)? Join us as we explore how to find good soil for your faith to flourish. Your spiritual roots might be dormant, but they're just waiting for the right conditions to grow.

The Parable of the Sower: Mark 4: 1 - 20

    Reflection:

    1. Where do you find your faith right now? Fallen onto the path? Falling on the rocks? Falling on the thorns? Sown on the Good soil?

    2. What do you cling to when life feels hard? Do you feel supported in this?

    3. As the sower, do you feel confident "sowing the seed freely"? Where do you feel God is calling you to "sow the seed" and share hope with others?

  • 40 Days Later: The Lent We Meant to Have

    Send us Fan Mail

When our Lenten journey doesn't go as planned, where do we find ourselves in the Easter season? Katie and Joe dive deep into their personal experiences during the past 40 days, sharing both triumphs and struggles with refreshing honesty.

The conversation begins with reflections on Easter celebrations and the beauty of Catholic traditions during Holy Week. We explore how these sacred rituals connect us physically to Christ's journey, from Palm Sunday through the resurrection. But what happens when our spiritual aspirations collide with the realities of busy lives, work travel, and house-hunting stress?

Katie reveals a powerful moment with her spiritual director who gently suggested that feelings of disconnection might actually be God's way of calling her back. This revelation sparked a deeper understanding about the nature of our relationship with God – not based on perfect performance but on surrender and openness to divine invitation.

Joe shares a profound meditation on the two thieves crucified alongside Jesus, highlighting the stark difference between demanding salvation on our terms versus surrendering to God's will. "One criminal commanded Jesus: 'Save us!' while the other simply asked to be remembered," Joe notes, challenging us to examine which approach characterizes our own spiritual lives.

The episode concludes with heartfelt reflections on Pope Francis' legacy and his declaration of the Jubilee Year of Hope – a fitting theme as we navigate the disappointments of imperfect Lenten practices while embracing the joy of Easter.

Whether you've maintained perfect spiritual disciplines or struggled to keep your Lenten commitments, this conversation offers a grace-filled perspective that will resonate with anyone seeking authentic relationship with God beyond religious performance. Join us as we discover how true transformation often happens not in our successes, but in our surrender.

  • 'Til Debt Do Us Part: Let's Talk About the Money, Money, Money

    Send us Fan Mail

Money talks often lead to money fights—especially when a dedicated saver marries an enthusiastic spender. We're pulling back the curtain on our financial journey, revealing how our drastically different money mindsets have clashed, compromised, and ultimately created a stronger partnership.

Katie grew up viewing money as something to protect and preserve, carefully saving birthday money and living with a scarcity mindset. Meanwhile, Joe approached finances with a "you can always earn more" attitude, finding joy in spending freely and worrying about tomorrow...well, tomorrow. Our house-buying journey has forced us to confront these differences head-on as we navigate one of life's biggest financial decisions.

This episode explores how our upbringings shaped our financial perspectives, from Katie never filling her gas tank completely (just enough to get by!) to Joe viewing career choices primarily through the lens of providing for family. We discuss the spiritual dimensions of money management, sharing how faith communities have supported us and others during tight seasons, and why prosperity isn't measured by account balances.

You'll hear practical advice about investing early, seeking financial guidance, and finding the delicate balance between saving for tomorrow and living fully today. We even reveal our top three spending categories (hello, Amazon addiction) and get vulnerable about our money mistakes. The conversation raises important questions about what it truly means to be "rich"—is it having wealth, family, purpose, or something else entirely?

Whether you're struggling with a partner who views money differently, wondering how to approach retirement planning, or simply curious about how others handle their finances, this honest conversation offers both practical wisdom and permission to talk more openly about one of life's most taboo topics. Let's start normalizing these discussions—your financial wellness depends on it.

Remember when everyone said college would be "the best years of your life"? Alli turns this idea on its head, sharing why she's actually found more genuine happiness since graduating. She opens up about the freedom that comes from shedding the social pressure of campus life and focusing on quality relationships rather than quantity. Her insights on finding confidence through financial independence and setting meaningful personal goals will resonate with anyone navigating this transformative life stage.

As the conversation deepens, we explore how faith evolves during these pivotal years. Alli candidly shares her journey through doubt and questioning, offering a perspective that feels authentic rather than prescribed. This moment of raw honesty creates space for listeners to examine their own spiritual practices without judgment.
