We now see the wonderful consequences that resulted from the brutal sacrifice of God's Servant, Jesus. The outcome is glorious. It brings salvation to the Jews. It brings salvation to the whole world. Isaiah describes for us a city whose builder and maker is God. A place where righteousness will be established. A place where oppression, terror and fear will not exist. It will be established, and no one will be able to challenge it in any way.

Based on this wonderful promise, God commands His children not to fear. God has been faithful in the past. God is faithful in the present. We can rest assured that God will always be faithful and true to His word. We have no need to fear.

All the wonderful promises and commands that we see in this chapter are based on God's word. There is nothing more certain than God's word. How important is God's word in our life? Are we willing to obey God's word regardless of our prejudice, our feelings, the cost or temporary consequences it may bring? The person who listens to all that Jesus says and obeys all that Jesus says will be the only person standing in these last days.

We now come to the conclusion of this great passage that began in 52:13. In this passage we have the complete picture of Calvary and all that God accomplished through His Servant, Jesus. We see clearly what was accomplished on behalf of Israel, what was accomplished on behalf of the whole world. The death of Jesus at Calvary satisfied God's righteous demand for judgment against sin, iniquity and transgression. His resurrection proved His victory over sin and death. Now through the finished work of Jesus, we have the way, the only way, for all to come to God in faith for salvation from sin.

In this study we were presented with several challenges. Do we have the mind of Christ? Are we willing to live in obedience as Christ did? Obedience to the point of death! Is the work that Jesus accomplished on the cross central in our daily walk with Him? Great and important questions. Our response to these questions will have great impact on our growth in Christ and our effectiveness for the kingdom of God.

We also took time to look deeply into the doctrine of atonement. Atonement is so simple to understand and yet so critical to our walk with Jesus. Atonement means to make reconciliation. All of humanity has a burden of sin that none are capable of paying. Jesus fulfilled the law of God perfectly. Jesus alone was able to offer Himself as the satisfactory payment for our sin. This was accomplished once and for all at Calvary, at the cross.

The Bible tells us in I John 2:2 that Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for our sins and not for our sin only but for the sin of the whole world.

How incredible it is to be washed in the blood of the Lamb. To be a new creation in Christ. To know that we are looking forward to a city whose builder and maker is God.

    Maranatha, come quickly Lord Jesus!

  • Isaiah 53:4-6

We continue this great passage that runs from Isaiah 52:13 through Isaiah 54:12. This along with Psalms 22 gives such a clear picture of the work of Christ at Calvary. This passage as the heart of the gospel in the Old Testament.

As we come to these next few verses, I refer to them as the heart of the heart. These verses show us so clearly that all sin, iniquity and transgression lead to wounds and bruises, to a deserved punishment. And yet it was our sin, our iniquity, our transgression that all fell on Jesus. Jesus was wounded, pierced, bruised and crushed for our sin, iniquity and transgression. Here we have one of the clearest presentations of the vicarious suffering of Jesus in all the scriptures.

As we look at this passage, may we all truly know Jesus. You cannot know Jesus glorified until first seen Him crucified. Have you seen Jesus crucified? Do you know Jesus glorified? Do you truly know Jesus?

We now transition from the summary of the Servant's vicarious sacrifice to the details. The transition is done with a rhetorical question expecting a negative response. Who has believed our report? There is great astonishment at the response. How could so many reject the wonderful loving gospel?

We learn that Jesus had no earthly advantage at all.  He was tender and vulnerable. He possessed none of the attributes that allures the admiration of the world. Yet He accomplished the greatest miracle at the cross; a lost sinner could be cleansed of their sin and made righteous before a Holy God. All this because of the vicarious sacrifice of Jesus.

Jesus was a man of sorrow, acquainted with grief. Jesus had sorrow. Not for Himself, but for those He came to save. Jesus was not distant from those He came to save. A true ministry of Jesus allows others to touch us and for us to touch others.

Despite all of this, Jesus was despised, rejected and not esteemed. In light of this, are we truly prepared to follow Jesus. Are we prepared to be despised, rejected and not esteemed? Jesus told us the He was hated without cause. We will be hated without cause. Are we truly prepared to follow Jesus?

Stay true to Jesus and His word. Keep your hand to the plough and don't look back. Be of good cheer, Jesus has overcome the world. A day is soon coming when our sorrow will be turned to joy. Jesus is coming soon! Maranatha!

We now begin a passage of scripture that has been referred to as the Mount Everest of messianic prophesy. In this passage we have the heart of the gospel. It brings us to an amazing accurate description of Jesus in His finished work at Calvary. We cannot truly know Jesus, see Jesus, apart from His finished work at Calvary. It is impossible to know Jesus high and lifted up until we first know him in His awful suffering and humiliation at Calvary.

In this study, we will be introduced to God's Servant, Jesus. It is important to note and understand the servanthood of Jesus. You and I have been called to follow Jesus, obey Jesus and like Jesus we are called to servanthood. Jesus is the sole example of servanthood that every believer is called to.

Jesus in His earthly ministry dealt prudently in all His ways. Again, as true followers of Jesus, we to must live a circumspect life. We are to behave wisely in all our ways. We are once again called to follow the example that Jesus has set for us.

Prepare your heart as we are about to ascend the great height of messianic prophecy. We will take a brief look at the history of the earthly ministry of Jesus. We will look at both His suffering and exaltation. This will prepare us for the details that are to follow.

Are we prepared to follow Jesus, to obey Jesus regardless of cost or consequence. Are we prepared to humbly, faithfully and obediently follow Jesus. Time is so short. May we make every day count for the glory of God!

  • The Great Last Days Danger the Church Faces

    Send us Fan Mail

As we enter into the last of the last days as the return of Christ looms on the near horizon, what is the greatest danger the church faces?

While there are things we are to be aware of and should be aware of; what is the greatest danger we face? And in light of this great danger, what is our certain defense against it?

I pray this message will give perspective as we move out of 2023 and move into 2024. I pray that it brings encouragement to run the race set before us with endurance.

Jesus is coming, and He is coming soon! Now more than ever, we need to keep our hand to the plough and never look back. We need to look up as our salvation draws near!

  • Isaiah 52:4-12

    Send us Fan Mail

This week's passage reminds us of the faithfulness of God. God's faithfulness to Israel throughout the scriptures is amazing. God delivered Israel from the bondage of Egypt. He defended them against the crushing Assyrians. God delivered them from Babylonian captivity allowing them to return to their ancestorial land and become re-established as a nation. This has once again been repeated in our day.

Based on His past faithfulness, God then reminds His people of the future promises He has for them according to His word. A day is fast approaching when Jesus will return to His people and establish His kingdom in Jerusalem. There He will reign and rule over the entire world. This reign will begin with a thousand years and will last for eternity.

God then challenges His people, based on His past faithfulness and future promises according to His word; to depart from Babylon, return to Israel and to live clean, righteous, holy lives.

How does this apply to you and I. God has been faithful to us. God has given to us great and certain promises based upon His word. Therefore, we should obediently, faithfully and humbly live clean, righteous, holy lives to the glory of God.

  • Isaiah 52:1-6

The righteous remnant in Babylonian captivity know that God is about to deliver them from their 70 years of bondage. Yet in spite of their knowledge and faith, God commands them in the strongest of terms to wake up. Why? Because our tendency is to sleep. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

The righteous remnant of today knows according to the scriptures that the return of Christ is at hand. We eagerly anticipate His return. Yet this command applies to us as well. We need to wake up and live for Jesus knowing that His return is truly imminent.

Romans 13:11-14 puts it best. And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkeness, not in in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

Our passage begins with the righteous remnant in Babylonian captivity crying out to God in prayer. Their cry of prayer results from the word of God as does all prayer. Their prayer is not typical, nor are their circumstances.

Their prayer is consistent with the word they just heard. They remind God of His past faithfulness while looking ahead with faith to the promises of God. They don't just look to God's promises, they see His promises as already fulfilled. This is a prayer of great faith.

God answers their prayer first with comfort. He then challenges them not to fear man. God reminds them of who He is and who Israel is in relation to Himself. God lets them know that their chastisement will soon come to completion. They are forgiven. Finally, the LORD guarantees' that all their enemies who humiliated them will now be humiliated as Israel enters into the eternal promise of God.

What great comfort and application we are able to draw from this passage. God is the same, He has not changed. The faithfulness of God will never fail. His love towards those that belong to him knows no limits.

We are living in tremendous days. We are on the precipice of the return of Jesus. Now more than ever we need to stay true to Jesus Christ and His Word. Let us all keep our hand to the plough and never look back as the day approaches.
