  • Lutefisk Sushi Podcast episode 9: The NORDEAST COMICS SUMMIT (Nov 2011) with Maxeem Konrardy
In the ninth episode host DANNO KLONOWSKI  is joined at the top by KEVIN CANNON and they discuss what the NORDEAST COMICS SUMMIT is and why you, the listener, should expect to hear a talk from each months NEC Summit on this and future episodes of the Lutefisk Sushi Podcast.  Danno and Kevin then hand-off the show to MAXEEM KONRARDY and his Summit talk from November 2011: “CREATIVITY: WHY DO IT?”–a look at the straight fact there are only so many stories in the world, and why that should never, ever stop you from putting your spin on them.  Maxeem’s talk is accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation that you can view here:

The next Nordeast Comics Summit will be on DECEMBER 1st, from 6-6:30 at Big Time Attic: 1618 Central Ave NE, Ste. 216, MPLS, MN 55413

  • Lutefisk Sushi Podcast episode 8: The “Salon Saloon” show from MIX 2011
In the eighth episode host DANNO KLONOWSKI hands over the podcast to ANDY STURDEVANT and the SALON SALOON panel from MIX 2011.  Danno is a guest along with CORINNE MUCHA, LENA CHANDHOK, and JOHN PORCELLINO with music by ANDREW CONNOR and the ACBs.  Ok, so Lutefisk Sushi’s prime directive is broken since Danno and Andy are the only MN artists in this episode, but I defy you to name another podcast out there that ends with a group of cartoonists singing “OH, YOKO”!   Thank you to Salon Saloon, Andy, Corinne, Lena, John and Sarah Morean for such a great time!
Also–Andy will bring up a PowerPoint that was going during the show multiple times, and while I don’t have the complete presentation, you can see the superb opening credits, Danno’s images, and a sample image of Corinne, Lena, and John’s work here:

  • Lutefisk Sushi Podcast episode 6: Lupi McGinty
In the sixth episode host DANNO KLONOWSKI talks with MN cartoonist LUPI McGINTY about the prolific body of work she’s produced over the last 3 years, Calvin and Hobbes, and the cut-throat world of podcasting.
This talk was recorded while we both very much-so drunk on the Mexican island of Isla Mujeres, and features a kick-ass music interlude by the hardest-working Mariachi in show business.  The closing song is a bootleg recording of JESUS CAMPUZANO . I did buy his album, but I wanted to give a dose of what it was like to see him live 3 times in the space of a week. Sadly, his cover of Rage Against the Machine’s KILLING IN THE NAME OF was not recorded for future generations. It was pretty amazing.

  • Lutefisk Sushi Podcast episode 4: Kevin Cannon
In the fourth episode host DANNO KLONOWSKI talks with MN cartoonist KEVIN CANNON about all his comics, their themes, and how they all led up to Cannon’s Eisner-nominated FAR ARDEN.  Also, they talk about love.  Sweet, sweet love.

  • Lutefisk Sushi Podcast episode 3: 24 Hour Comic Day 2011
In the third episode host DANNO KLONOWSKI talks with MN cartoonists–LOTS of MN cartoonists–who all took part in 24 HOUR COMIC DAY 2011 at the MN Center for Book Arts!  Danno, a semi-retired 24 Hour Comic Day veteran, showed up at hour 13–the point at which you probably know you’re either all in or totally boned– to see how everyone’s progress was going and what, if anything, they had learned from the experience.  In this episode Danno speaks with MN cartoonists DAVID STEINLICHT, MICHELLE SILVA, PHIL HOWE, ROB STENZINGER, VICTOR COURTRIGHT, SALINA TREVINO, JAKE HERRICK, SARAH KOPITSKE, AMELIA MAPLE, THOMAS BOGUSZEWSKI, NICK STRAIGHT, TODD BALTHAZOR, PETER WARTMAN, LATHAM LUEPKE, and DAVID WITT.  The 2011 Mpls 24 Hour Comic Day was made possible by the MN Center for Book Arts, Wet Paint Art Supplies, The Source Comic and Games, and the International Cartoonist Conspiracy.  Finally, Danno rounds out the episode with a mention of the recent Twin Cities ZINEFEST and the song “Of Mice and Men” by Milwaukee cartoonist MATT CHICOREL’s band ‘DADS‘.
