In today's episode, Wesley and Ryan interviewed Rev. Dr. Kristine Blaess. Dr. Blaess grew up in Bozeman, Montana where she enjoyed hiking and skiing. She received a BA in Music (Organ) from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and a Master of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. After seminary, Kristine and her husband Michael spent a year in Australia studying, visiting Aboriginal communities, and working on a sheep station.

Kristine received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 2012. Her project emerged from her passion for helping congregations flourish as they seek God’s kingdom and learn to make disciples.

Kristine has served congregations in Idaho and Tennessee.  

Kristine and Michael are proud parents of Jack and Natalie.

To continue our "Beauty Will Save the World" series, Wesley and Ryan spoke with with musicians and good friends Jon Guerra and Daniel Kohavi.

Jon is a gifted singer-songwriter who writes, as he describes it: “devotional music that is attending to the soul and listening for God.” Jon is based in Austin, TX, and he has recorded a number of studio albums including “Little Songs” released in 2015 and “Keeper of Days” in 2020.  His newest album, Ordinary Ways, was released just a few weeks ago.

Daniel is based in Nashville, TN. He, along with his wife Emily and their friend Max, has a band called Wildeyes, who just released their latest album "Shut Up and Dance" last year. The album expands on their acoustically-driven indie rock sound with plenty of surprises and ways to keep you dancing.

In 2 Samuel chapter 6, King David danced for joy before the entire city of Jerusalem as the ark of God was brought to reside in the city. To continue our "Beauty Will Save the World" series, we brought in a professional dancer to talk about the importance of the art of dance and how we can glorify God through it.

Laura Hilley is a classically trained ballerina who studied at the Houston Ballet before joining the Cincinnati Ballet. She has since returned to Houston and performs for Uptown Dance while also teaching ballet to the next generation. (Fun fact: previous podcast guest Joy Hilley is her mom).

We believe after listening to this episode that you’ll be convinced that dancing is a integral part of the beauty of Christ saving the world, so get ready to put on your dancing shoes with Wesley, Ryan, Laura, and King David.

In this week’s installment of our Beauty Will Save the World series, we wade into the waters of poetry.  For some, the waters of poetry are welcoming and tranquil. For others, though, they are scary, downright intimidating even. Maybe poetry is your happy place, or maybe poetry represents waters you’ve never waded into because the form can be challenging or someone made you feel lesser than because you “just didn’t get it” on the first read.    

Our guest this week, though, invites us to expand our thinking and consider poetry as prayer – a form of art as open to all as our prayers to Almighty God.  

The Rev. Jason Myers grew up in western Maryland and graduated from Bennington College. He received an MFA in Poetry from NYU and an M. Div. from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. His poetry collection, Maker of Heaven &, was published in March 2023 by Belle Point Press, and Eerdmans will publish a work of creative nonfiction, A Place for the Genuine: Reflections on Nature, Poetry, and Vocation, in 2024.  Jason serves as editor-in-chief of EcoTheo Review and co-director of EcoTheo Collective. A National Poetry Series finalist, Jason is the new Associate Rector at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fort Worth, TX.  

His wife Allison Grace Myers is a published author as well. The couple have a young son, Robinson.
