On this episode, we hear from Julie McDonald and Lisa Graham, founders of McDonald Graham Psychology at Work, a leadership development and coaching partnership. Julie and Lisa talk about the importance of collaboration, trust, open communication, and developing leadership skills before difficult situations come up. They explain that inner work and self-awareness are foundational for good leadership. Julia and Lisa combat the idea that leaders are only people in powerful positions. They explain that how you show up, serve others, and influence others through your actions is what makes you a good leader.

- What are the things that invisible barriers that I need to work through?
- What are my strengths and how do I build a team around me to offset my weaknesses?
They apply their leadership coaching to personal finance by discussing how to push through the confidence gap of handling finances, recognize invisible barriers, and identify why it is so difficult for women to talk about finances.
Lastly, they discuss how to be empathic in light of recent riots and protests:
- Connect with what other people are feeling
- Listen, hear, and understand other’s experiences
- Validating the feelings others have
